I have both Xbox S and PS 4.
I fancy getting a wheel and pedals and playing some driving sims.
So any recommendation on a wheel and pedals, budget up to about £100?
Also, which game? Is there much between Forza and GT?
Bought Forza Horizon 4 in Steam sale other day, visually very nice, very forgiving but fun to drive even on keyboard.
I was an avid sim racer 2005-2017, old Fanatec wheel broke and I started cycling more, now need to unbox the Logitech G29 bought at least two years ago having bought a few racing games this week.
I prefer Forza over GT just because there are no annoying license tests getting in the way of being able to actually play the sodding game!
A force feedback wheel will likely run over budget but I don't think it's worth getting one without it.
Try looking for a used Logitech G29, or a Thrustmaster T150. Might be able to find some older ones within budget but I'm not sure about console compatibility - the current ones do a Playstation model and an Xbox model of the same wheel, either will work on PC.
Forza hasn't been a driving game (IMO) since 7. Horizons just sucked all the joy out of it for me, I'd go for GT out of the two personally (and I'm not even a PS owner).
Looked at Project Cars?
I tried Forza last year with an old logitech force feedback wheel, it was fun enough but very arcade level. GT is better as a driving sim - not close to the likes of assetto corsa but still very good.
There are two Forza games. Horizon and non Horizon.
Horizon is the arcadey one and I wouldn’t imagine it’s huge fun with a wheel. If you want sim racing then the standard Forza is what you want.
I have the old Driving Force GT wheel and it was great with Gran Turismo so any of the new versions must be good as well.
PlayStation racer here, placed most of the ‘realistic’ ones.
GT - good all rounder, accessible online races, bit arcadey, enjoyable with a controller, better with a steering wheel. VR is brilliant
Project cars 1 & 2 - much less arcadey, very realistic, tons of tuning for the cars, with noticeable effects. Lots of niche cars. Difficult with a controller, use a wheel.
Project cars 3, swinging back towards arcade, more accessible with a pad, less tuning options, less full on sim.
Assetto Corsa. As simmy as console racers get. Nigh on impossible to race properly with a controller, very realistic handling. I can lose hours perfecting lap times…
Dirt rally 1&2 Very simmy rallying, challenging with a wheel, as in you’ll have a sweat on after a full stage. VR option with 1 is very good.
I use a G29 wheel with a proper stand and improvised ‘racing chair’ to get a realistic driving position. Don’t want to try a higher spec one as I’ll want to go full upgrade…
If you want sim racing then the standard Forza is what you want.
Except 7 is now 5 years old and is no longer available to purchase since the licences expired so is disc only meaning DLC is locked out as well. The next game was announced last year but AFAIK there are no details beyond a title.
You'll need to check the compatibility of a wheel as well as getting ones that work with both Xbox and PS can be a bugger
Yeah, I prefer Forza Motorsport over Horizon, although Horizon 1 is still really good fun. I only have a 360 so am 'stuck' with Motorsports 2,3 & 4 and Horizons 1 & 2. Motorsport 4 just edges it over 3 and Horizon 1 is more fun than 2, I think.
There's this wheel adapter/converter from Brook too-
So I decided a decent force feedback wheel was necessary.
Couldn't really justify £260 for a new one, had a look on Ebay and the 2nd hand prices were crazy, nearly the same as new.
Anyway found 1 reduced G920 on cash convertors for £110 delivered minus power supply. Got a power supply from Ebay. £123 in all.
So Forza it is then.
Thanks all.
edit- sorry, my mistake, Daytona USA is NLA.
