I suspect there may have been an element of “just do it” by this point.

Maybe even JFDI?

Still posting the html when using quote tags and copying across.

IS there a way to search for my own activity on threads like there used to be ?

Don’t think so. Didn’t realise how much I used forum activity to keep tabs on threads.

I am sure they wouldn’t have removed this functionality without having something new and improved to replace it. As that would just be ridiculous, and we know that charge cannot be levelled at this update.

As above, that was pretty much the most important functionality of the forum. Or, at the very least, have the "Replies Created" section link to the original thread in some way.

Some might call it an improvement, but when I am not logged in I only see a line saying “Advertisment” with no ad. Do you still get revenue like this? 😉

As a result of the Great Hack the forum had to restart from the ground up. Nobody died. Maybe it would be better to do the same again as opposed to trying to shoehorn the old one in.

I think I've got Paste to work on my phone.

Copy as per normal, place the cursor in the reply box, hit the Clear Formatting button, then Paste as normal..

Of course the Reply box is still hanging off the left of the screen so it's still a pain to type anything.

Ah bugger. I'll need to do a second Clear Formatting once the Paste is done

Yes Drac.  If the DB is corrupted (see above) there might be no choice. You can't have posts/text attributed to the wrong person.

I'm saying there might not be an option.

And, TBH, the search function was so bad it's questionable how useful the previous 8.9 years of history was 🙂

I'm all for progress, and realise this isn't a money making commercial forum, but to an IT luddite the functionality has taken a significant backwards step.  I hope this is still a work in progress...

It’s not an option at all.

The search tool was poor but in adavanced mode worked not too bad, hopefully the newer one will be better.

More fixing will go on today Bikebouy.

For now people can still post, quoting is a bit of pain though but on the bright side it might keep the big hitters quite for now.

I think so. We’re in sunken cost fallacy territory now.

Could just archive the old forum on a sub domain. The forum came back before, and will do so again.

I’ve been joking before, but this is embarrassing.

As a slight aside, for a few weeks now, I've not seen links to the latest front page content in the sidebar of my forum screen. On a MacBook Pro running Safari. Same wth Chrome.

The righthand column is just blank for me. Which in turn means I'm less likely to click on those links and actually read the articles. Is that a deliberate thing or did something change?

Are other people getting links to the front page stuff on the righthand sidebar or is it just adverts?

Reassuringly, though slightly ironically, the one ****ing feature in this ****ing ridiculous bit of a mess of botch that continues reliably to work is the ****ing swear ****ing filter!

Editing to add that, no, even the swear filter is ****ed. When I type something which rhymes with "dustercluck" that's what I mean. I do not expect to see the words "bit of a mess". This does add weight though to the deliberate wind-up theory...<span style="text-decoration: underline;"> (I would as a bunch of smileys but can't find the little ****ers 😀😀😀) and why the **** is that underlined?</span>

And, TBH, the search function was so bad it’s questionable how useful the previous 8.9 years of history was

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Asingletrackworld.com works fine. Or at least it did until the change of post count on each page broke the indexing. I'm hoping Google will re-index itself - if not then that's possibly the most irritating change of the lot, because there wasn't really anything wrong with 35 posts on a page and changing it to 40 is hardly going to improve the user experience in any way (though without delving too deeply, the change of paging is slightly more than just changing the number of posts on a page, it seems that deleted posts are treated differently regarding new pages - I'm fairly sure I understand what's happened here and it makes logical sense, but it's far too techy and boring for anybody else to be interested in).

TBH rather than implement a new search function, why not just link to google like lots of other forums do - I thought simplifying things and using industry standard stuff was one of the whole points of this "upgrade"?

If the DB is corrupted (see above) there might be no choice. You can’t have posts/text attributed to the wrong person.

I'm sure they have a backup of the DB and can redo the migration, because that's what I'm doing with my migration next week, and it's what any sensible DB migration does...

It does on the main posts, It was broken in the tags and reason for editing...

Just ****ing checking

I have no useful contribution to make
I struggle with long sentences

edit: yep still broken in tags, let's see if it also is in reason for editing...
edit: also looks to still be broken in reason for editing, though I was careful what I wrote there as you can't edit after (tag self-censored)

I was going to say, that for me the one thing that seems to be working well is the advertisements, they look really crisp. Although now even some of them seem to be missing (just the title Advertisement showing). But, I really don’t like the way it looks like the advertisements appear to have been posted by a forum user (ie they just run on from a post, if you get my meaning).

“because there wasn’t really anything wrong with 35 posts on a page and changing it to 40 is hardly going to improve the user experience in any way ”

40 posts/pg used the be the norm. It was changed a few years ago, presumably to increase apparent imprint number for ad purposes. My guess is that 40 is the default number for bbpress, so the new version has just defaulted.

As above, that was pretty much the most important functionality of the forum. Or, at the very least, have the “Replies Created” section link to the original thread in some way.

This would be a nice interim fix. Can't be that hard to add the link to the thread.

I'm sure you're right - if it hadn't broken google searches it wouldn't be an issue (well if it wasn't for this that is: http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/eu-referendum-are-you-in-or-out/page/875#post-9226061 🙁 )

Well, I’m currently writing this on Safari on my iPhone. But it is the same as my experience on Microsoft Edge on Windows 10.

Beyond that, I can’t seem to find a version.

That’s probably no help. Sorry.

I also have no buttons Drac, Chrome 64.0.3282.119 64 bit, Windows 10 64 bit version 1709, build 16299.192 (should be the most up to date versions of both).

Though Cougar earlier seemed to think the issue wasn't browser or OS dependent, I suspect it's related to failing to download some sort of resource due to being blocked somewhere - and I did try turning off the extension I use which I'm not allowed to mention which vastly improves my browsing experience on those sites where I don't have a little P by my name (I'm afraid much as I'd normally like to, I currently have better things to do than examine HTML and Javascript to see exactly what's happening).

This maybe of interest to the fault loggers/developers/anyonewhowantstofixstuff!

The videos are missing from any post with the codes -

[img] [/img] .

If a video url is posted the vid shows up. (Bigger than before)

Be nice if that was sorted, for me personally, like.

(also, minor: there's no Preview button when editing a post 😆 )

I can see it's already been mentioned on this page, and probably more, but this afternoon's task should be to get that forum activity function working again. There's no way I can find to easily jump to old topics I was engaged in. Even putting in Favorites (sic.) doesn't work as that just lists the whole forum content!

That's pretty mad too - the text box for posting isn't seen (by Chrome at least) as a text box.

So, when you right-click, you get this -

[img] [/img]

instead of this -

[img] [/img]

I can't take it anymore. I'm leaving til it's fixed.

At least there's one positive thing, anyway!

Looks nice enough on my galaxy tab pro tablet (in portrait and landscape) now. Text is no longer massive/green.

Still some odd styling. The 'Favorite/Unfavorite' link is underlined in landscape mode not in portrait mode. That's  a very minor thing, but points to some random/inconsistent css styling.
