Is that a site-wide (mobile) issue?  Are iDevice users seeing the same thing?

I'm sure that will be discovered when the team test it on the Idevices and Android devices they are using for testing

If that isn't happening that it could explain what is going wrong, what platforms or devices are the team short of/not got one of?

Regarding logging in on Android  I'm magically logged in on my Android phone now. I didn't try to log in... but somehow I am! Maybe they fixed something...?

the next page forum is below the new thread box

I'm not sure what you're referring to here, I can't see that anywhere.  Is this the mobile site again?

It'd be really useful if folk specify desktop / mobile where relevant.  I'll edit my post.

A guide for some of the less intuitive features

I'll make a note of it.  I expect part of the challenge here is that writing such things whilst the forum is under heavy development means it's one more thing to keep up to date as stuff is changed.

Assume Improve Member History is heading back to what was there before?

Your assumption is as good as mine.  I understand that's what you guys are asking for though.

Does ‘favourites’ work for anyone?

Oooh that's a very good shout, thanks.

I’m not sure if this is what you mean by member history

It is, yes.

Front Forum Summary page you get new post box and then the page numbers Chrome/Windows & Chrome/Android for it to be there it's been put there by design.

As for instructions posting pics, vids and emoji's hasn't changed - As I suggested before pin it in a sticky thread and you guys will spend less time posting the same answers over and over again.

Forum/Post History if somebody has a bright idea that would be better then perhaps they need to post some previews for comment - again if lots of people are asking for one thing then it makes sense that it works. No need to reinvent the wheel here.

Thanks for feeding these back, it takes effort to do all of this but it feels a bit neglected if there isn't a reply to it to say if any of it is happening. The engagement from Mark etc. has helped recently,

Front Forum Summary page

Ah!  I see what you mean.  It's the other way around on the individual forum indices, so is at best inconsistent.

I previously suggested that STW provide access to a testbed system to a small group of users with a range of device/OS/browsers so that the testing is wider.

A guide for some of the less intuitive features

I've just had an idea here.

The big challenge is to create comprehensive documentation and keep it current as the site evolves.  No-one's going to do that any time soon, the dev team don't have the time and the mod team don't have the inclination.

How about instead, if I create a "Forum Tricks and Tips" thread?  People can submit ideas (eg "alt-shift-D gives you Strikeout"), and I'll periodically collate the discussion back up into the OP.  Maybe it can also be a place for "how do I...?" questions, even?

Thoughts?

Just been thinking this over...

It's an out the box, off the shelf forum editor - right?

The documentation should be as simple as cut and paste with some tweaks from the documentation supplied by the people who wrote it.

If it doesn't work like it's designed to then it's a bug.

If not we appear to be rapidly heading down the patch on patch route which got us here in the first place.

If the Editor is crap then don't use it as the base.

How about instead, if I create a “Forum Tricks and Tips” thread?  People can submit ideas (eg “alt-shift-D gives you Strikeout”), and I’ll periodically collate the discussion back up into the OP.  Maybe it can also be a place for “how do I…?” questions, even?

Just add the ones you know works, perhaps a line to report if something doesn't work any more.

Is that a mobile issue? The Submit button “clicks” when you press it on the full-fat site.

Not much use if you run silent

I* also have an issue when attempting to navigate around using an andriod phone - some links / buttons take several goes to make them work and there is no indication that it has worked

that could well be me tho

I meant it clicks graphically, not audibly.

Seems there's a general issue around button feedback on the Mobile site then.  I'll add it to the list.

maybe this doesn't fit the remit but chrome/android/mobile, if you hit the link button it goes in to some crazy cycle of popping up the link window, the keyboard, then closing both. repeat.

Hold that thought for now.  I'm going to at least try and collate a separate platform-specific list later.

I really should use the mobile site more, it'd be a lot of help in these discussions.

Oh and page numbers/count not really working

Oooh, i just tried hitting the link button (Samsung tablet on SwiftKey), does the same thing with the keyboard flashing on and off.

It's looking like it's a lot better than it was, though, things are looking up. 😊

Also  no feedback on the submit button here, either.

Found a glitch - on iPad, when you post a pic, then select it, so you can edit/resize it, you can’t type in any of the boxes except the url one. I wanted to put a number in the size box and couldn’t.

Also, are we getting the last poster in thread thing back anytime soon, now that the migration to cloud is done? The replies created substitute is quite shit, you must admit.

Well I see that this forums returning back to its 2006 build of childish Next pop ups on every page you scroll through, then you have to click the X to get rid of it.

So, having hit the X four times to find this thread I’d like to know how many page impressions your advertising trackers are passing back to ad agency please.

Its looking more like Lings PCP website every day, and clearly the Devs are 11 yrs old an think pop ups are “cool”

Not logged in in a while but tried yesterday and again today. Obviously i succeeded but it takes several stabs each time. My user name and password are the same but that Recaptcha 'feature' is a ballache and despite giving me the green tick of acceptance, it then informs me i'm unable to join in the frollicks. I was about to purchase 10,000 P's and 1,000 magazines but wont bother now. I'll be giving my monies to Lance and Specialized instead 😛

Being a P and just wanting the simple functionality of the forum itself, apart from a few minor quirks, it's not bad.

Ability to hover and see 'last posted by' over the end of a thread, would be nice

on mobile view, ability to go easily to last actual post, not just last page, that would be nice too

search that works.

Ability to find your own posts, not just your own threads.

None of the above for me are deal breakers though, just things i'd like to see that we used to have.

It's just to prove that nobody is reading the feedback and insisting on reinventing stuff, same as the search thing above its almost like somebody wants to prove they are not testing across platforms

Hmm, just come across the log-in/cookies problem. My two weeks was up, logged back in, made the post four above this one, did a bit of looking around, came back and I was logged out and had to clear cookies again.

Same here - just logged me out, wouldn't let me log back in at all until I had gone into Chrome settings, deleted all the 15 STW cookies, quit from Chrome, restarted Chrome. There may be a few more users doing that over the next few days (or not bothering) as everyone who thought they'd sorted your log-in issue first time around is thrown out again.

Unless that was the user experience you were pitching for every few weeks or so...

Oh, mine has just gone pear shaped.

Logged out and on Chrome when i get the Captcha it doesn't open the window to tick the boxes with cars in... I assume Chrome is stopping the pop-up or my work laptop is... one or the other.

I've logged in with Firefox OK, but can't with my usual Chrome browser.

Out of interest, why do you need the Captcha thing for existing users trying to log in? I can understand it to stop bots trying to set up new accounts, but I don't get it for the rest of us punters.

Android paranoia innit.

Mark is terrified of robots. He believes there's a global conspiracy to take over STW with artificial people.

I've not yet seen the Captcha, or the cookie message, but it sounds like STW trying to protect our accounts, and inform us about tracking and data capture… which is exactly what they should be doing.

It really doesn't, it makes it appear that they don't know about these things so are throwing random things at it just in case it does any good. Anyway, seems the captcha has gone now which is just as well as I'd given up trying to use the forum on my phone - it's hard enough to work out what Google reckons is a road sign/store front/car on a big screen when you can see the picture; on a phone screen it was hopeless. Surprised this didn't come up when it was tested on small screens...
