Well the thread on the pop ups and redirects gained a lot of conversation, and hit/views, so obviously it’s a successful view grabber. Repaper the same ethos into the site but this time use pop ups to promote the mag and generate the same conversation streams to gain more views and consternation.. and gain more views and posts and keep the traffic flowing into the site.

Amazing that this has gotten past 2007.

Annoying viewers/posters is the new model.

nah! it's still there

still curious about the browser hijack ads though. I rarely see them, not seen one for months (like 6+ months), even on Android phone which has none of the browser add-ons that improve the use of the internet.  I get more from viewing the BBC news webby from outside UK.

I tried ignoring the pop up ad but not it's really starting to grate in addition to it being so goddarn slow.

Moreover is this an issue for anyone else - staying logged in once you enter your username and password and click remember me? I find myself having to log in several times if using my iphone.

Still struggling to figure how to attach pics.. I've tried using the insert/edit image icon but it does not work.

Pics? Just read the help/how to pages - oh wait...

You still basically need the file hosted elsewhere and a link/address then ends in .jpeg .bmp or .png

If you have that paste the link in the box here or in the first box of post image

eg

https:// ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/ images/2018/4/13/f24152cb-ffe5-4766-861f-281bfd49b698.jpg Without the spaces obviously

Given your relative proximity to Todmorden I'd had thought that it was already quicker to get the forum posted out to you. Much slower and hand delivered to Australia will be a distinct rival to the more conventional means of distributing online fora

@tuskloosa - if you use the insert image dialog I've found that you also need to click in the "Image description " field, this forces the code to work out the image size - you'll see the two boxes below being populated automagically. Without doing this it sets the image size to be be zero by zero pixels, which isn't useful!

My contribution for the day....

Using https://singletrackmag.com/forum /"> https://web.archive.org/web/20170615000000*/https://singletrackmag.com/forum/

I looked at the post count from this time last year - from 28th March 2017 to 28th April 2017 we collectively averaged 748 daily posts on the bike forum and 974 daily posts on the chat forum. It will be interesting to see what we collectively post in the coming days on average. Sadly you can't tell too easily on the chat forum because the post count seems to be broken at the moment (currently reading 175992, give or take the same as the topic count) and to be fair Trump and Brexit was keeping everyone very excited so the post count in chat was high. But the current bike forum tally is at 37352219. By 1400 on 20th April 2018 it should be around 3,740,500 if the current forum 'improvements' have not had a negative effect. Good weather ahead so lots of folk should be thinking about riding and have lots to say so plenty of chance user involvement being up on last year......

When are you/the IT nods going to get rid of that chuffing annoying scrolling POC that clutters the screen?

If they’re having a beer on STW then clearly the directive comes from the Editors in Cheif that it’s an acceptable POS.

Have we reached Peak Ads on STW now? I know they need to make money an' all, but the in-line ads, rolling banners and pop-ups inviting me to subscribe are getting totally out of control  - definitely reduces my interest in coming to the forum (which may of course be another motivation).

1400 Friday to 1400 Saturday - 432 posts on the bike forum in comparison to a daily average in April last year of 748. Let's see how the next few days even out the average.

nope it's still there. still loading wsdi.js. still loading <div id="wsdi-slide_in>. still re-shows if you scroll right to the end (which is what you have to do to get the X button to shut it up.

edit: and I just made it create a wdsi-on_hide cookie (time to hack it - ah expiry now set to 3 days by default - /me tries using devtools to set expiry year to 2038 😉 )

</div>

On firefox on Linux, if you try to scroll right to the end it jumps back up to the beginning.

Kind of annoying if there are too many posts on the page as you can't post a message except with lots of messing around (or perhaps wait until the topic starts a new page?).

It's just a variant on the usual pasting formatted stuff bug, but slightly different to usual and I thought kind of interesting:

https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/raspberry-pi-do-i-need-one/#post-9942693

Usually when you edit a post you can delete the spurious <span> crap, but in that case it all looks just fine in the edit box. As mentioned in the post I C&P via another editor to fix it.

edit: and let's just add another bug report while we're at it - I tried to give a direct link to the post, but it seems the forum in its wisdom removes the #post-9942693 at the end of the URL (which is still visible in the edit box 😡) the link should be
https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/raspberry-pi-do-i-need-one/#post-9942693
(relying on the forum ignoring URLs which aren't at the start of the line)

I mean honestly these are really simple things to fix, I'm thinking they probably could have been done in the time spent posing for photos with beers, let alone the time spent adding a pop up nobody wants.

Video url only appears to work when you hit return before you hit submit, doesn’t seem a necessary step.

I presume favourites is still unsolved. Is there a plan to reinstate the favourites that users have saved?  If not this is a real pity as I know I save lots of useful threads that I wanted to revisit.

Is there a bug count that is being worked on daily? Just out of interest any figures on this you would share to users?

Apparently it's time for me to buy another copy of the mag. I'm going to keep the subscription one nice and unused and just read the other 17 I seem to have unwittingly bought. Off to buy another copy now, for some reason. No idea why, I just feel the urge again this morning.

Contempt: that thing  STW has for its customers and unpaid content providers.

More than the technical issues, it's that contempt that will drive folk away .

That's not what the forum help page says, it didn't say it when I tried posting a video 6 weeks ago. Which took four attempts. It'd take no more than two minutes to update the forum help so that it says what you're supposed to do - please could someone fix that today?

Thanks Drac. How come there's something intuitive about the updated forum? 😉 Except that it's not really obvious, given that you need to use the menu to embed an image. Hiding in plain sight.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be snarky, but it's not very obvious and there doesn't seem to be a clear way of finding out.

Has anyone considered putting together a quick start guide to the forum and stickying it for reference as an interim step. You could link it to the existing 'forum help' link as well.

OK, so I'm curious why you're so bothered about people sending you messages? People occasionally message me on here and it's kind of useful - if you have no friends you probably won't get any messages.

Bit harsh.

They've obviously hit the go switch on something that's turned out to be an absolute bag'o'shyte and now are bogged down without knowing how to extricate the situation.

OK, so I’m curious why you’re so bothered about people sending you messages?

Just several cases (on many forums, this being one of them) where I post something to a thread, but then people (that presumably don't understand the concept of forums?) reply to me by direct message. Reply to the forum. That what it's there for. That way more people might respond.

if you have no friends you probably won’t get any messages.

I definitely won't get any now cos I just changed the settings 😉

Can't see any way to turn off the friend function though.
