b) It’s an internet forum about bicycles.
Is somebody else going to tell him or will I?

As an aside, I’m loving the keyboard shortcuts. Ctrl-B for bold and so forth.Did I miss my instruction manual as I’m moving?
Alt+F4 seems to fix most problems.
Clearly not you’re still posting 🙂
I’ve always thought there are some right funny **** on here, and this thread proves it.
Stressing about a little forum on their weekend! 😆
Or look at it a different way, which is that an awful lot of people have a strong emotional attachment to this forum and community because it can actually be a lot more than just 'an internet forum about bicycles'. Which is why some of them are frustrated.
And of course, some folk just have no sense of perspective 🙂
Is this the right place for "how do I do this now in the new forum...?" type posts? Assuming so...
I used to click on my profile to see my posts and could then click on them to go to the thread (so I could see follow-on posts to mine, although it only took you to the first post in the thread which could be a PITA on a big thread but it sort of worked at least). However I can't see how to do that now?
If I click on "Replies Created" in my profile I just see them summarised and clicking on any of the links doesn't take me to the thread itself, am I just being dumb? I think the issue is there used to be a thread title link when it displayed your reply but now there isn't
Fuzzy Wuzzy I was about to ask the same question, how do I find the Archers thread?
Currently yes it doesn’t work how it did for finding threads you’ve replied to. It is on the list for features to be sorted. Cheers for highlighting it and being patient.
Regrettably Chewkw, it appears to be nothing to do with subscriber or no. I wonder if it's to do with number of reported posts or such? I take it you've no buttons either?
I’m probably missing something (like all the editing buttons that used to be here for quotes etc). Is this intentional or is it down to my system(s). People are talking about keyboard short cuts etc, where do I find out about these (Looking at the forum help section is obviously a bit too obvious).
I’m browsing on macOS 10.13.2 with Safari 11.0.2 or Firefox 58.0 and on Android 7.0 using whatever the latest updates of Chrome or Firefox are if that makes any difference
Hope you all had a great weekend, and time away from the forum lads 😉
I'm not <span style="text-decoration: underline;">sure </span> I know what I'm doing yet.
Minor. Issue
User profile -> post history
I can see the posts I made but no way of opening the a link to the thread it is on.
Cheers for the OS details Richie.
Yup Brick same as above.
Weekend off Bikebouy what’s that? 😉
Another bug report;
This thread

seems to have 5 replies, though I can see none of them.

We must try harder.
Appreciate the work you guys are doing. I know this has been asked already, but I haven’t read a response that my, aged, minimally technical, brain can understand.
is there, or is there going to be, a facility for uploading photos directly from your iPhone photo gallery, or will I still have to go through the “post image” “Flickr” etc process. (Which i’m a bit rubbish at)
I understand this is an interim position during transition to a new platform. Do we have any idea when this new platform/site will be live?
Interestingly, the update has caused STW to fall off of the Google search rankings for 'STW'.
I'm guessing because the update caused a lot of the pages that ranked to break - when clicking them after the update you were taken to 404-type page with an empty cup of coffee and a message saying 'can't find that' or something similar.

I can answer that for you - almost certainly no, never. Forums have rarely worked like that historically because it would mean buying hosting for the images and building/buying a whole content upload system, as well as overhead to monitor the images being uploaded.
Some larger forums I use do have their own image uploads, but they're so huge the whole forum is it's own (very) profitable business - STW sees nowhere near that amount of traffic.
it's much easier on mobile to use imgur:
<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 12px;">Do we have any idea when this new platform/site will be live?</span>
I have it on good authority the new forum will be here in 2012.
On a slightly pedantic note it is a bit redundant to have the "Forum" listing on the main forum page as well as the same entries on the tabs, on the web version.
Pushes the start of the threads right down the page and doesn't look very slick.

Um, I don't know if this intentional but you might want to flag up that it's possible to manipulate your own posts from time gone by.
http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/random-psa-for-the-gardenersallotmenters-in-leeds/
I know how much work goes into this stuff, and how things you never expected to be a problem can be, and how frustrating it can be to iron out all the glitches. However, it doesn't half feel like someone has accidentally promoted the unit test code into the production environment.
There's obviously a lot of good stuff being done, but it's been implemented too early after too little testing.
And Mark's 'it's just an internet forum about bicycles' response is pretty disingenuous. If this was a site someone kept going as a hobby, fair enough, but it's not, it's a business.

Still not seeing any of the formatting buttons for a post above the input box. Just me? [iPhone7 iOS whatever the latest is]
Have tried killing app and re-launching but nothing.

There is no test environment.

Which he'll doubtless remind us when it suits him to - ie when discussion turns to freeloading. I'm trying desperately not to be too negative here, but I agree with you; Mark's last post explained why the change had to happen, and I agree totally with that, it's a change I was pushing for years ago (ISTR Mark telling us they couldn't possibly upgrade the forum software, for reasons). It didn't explain why the change had to happen like this without adequate testing before going live - the necessity to load test isn't an explanation of that at all.
BTW for anybody still browsing STW on a desktop and using Chrome, I'm running an updated version of the STW Forum Tools extension which fixes the blocking and quoting functionality (the latter should presumably be made obsolete by the new stuff, but I have no buttons and "reply" doesn't work). Should be able to make it available for others to sideload tonight - might even add the functionality to be able to go to threads you've posted on (I know how to do that, just haven't implemented it yet)
There is no test environment
we are the test environment...
Quite surprised the IT guys took the weekend off as it is so messed up, would have thought professional pride would have brought them in to fix it up as quick as possible. Maybe the mobile version is less messed up than the web version and that is the priority.
If this was a site someone kept going as a hobby, fair enough, but it’s not, it’s a business.
think it is now just a hobby thing - I was almost tempted to renew my subscription again but the site is so messed up now I will wait.
If it was a hobby thing the devs would have been fixing it on Sunday night...
Can't we all just be a little patient? I'm noticing stuff changing as I'm dropping in and out through the day and the place is running slow so I guess they're doing something in the code.
Do love the way the topic counts have gone from ~3 million to multiple billions, someone/something can't count!!
If it was hobby or professional pride they should have been in fixing it, just get the time back lieu. End of the day surel this forum pays some of the bills, and is marketing for the magazine.
Just noticed it's a formatting issue on my phone blurring the topic and post numbers together. Separates out in landscape.
Ooh, I now have the editing buttons!! So that's what the exploding pill and rubber things like like. Now if the tech guys could solve the issue of the text window being wider than my phone while typing this it would be fine on mobile.

Certainly....
But there is such a thing as managing expectations and helping users (paying customers) to use the "improved" site such as explaining what the buttons do, if stuff isn't working that it's being fixed or that it's how it's meant to be and we are expecting the wrong things.
http://singletrackmag.com/forum-help/ There is even a page for all that handy info to go...
There are a bunch of bike threads I've given up trying to reply to from mobile as any hope of doing a meaningful quote is out the window, then I CBA to go back and fix the 20 lines of extra code in there too.
No ability to test, I wonder if the forum is backed-up in that case? Lack of back-up killed Descent Worlds forum in an instant.
FWIW, I also find the weekend thing a bit odd. You broke it, you fix it.........whenever it's convenient of course
I’m noticing stuff changing as I’m dropping in and out through the day and the place is running slow so I guess they’re doing something in the code.
That's the point; that stuff should be done in the code in a separate environment, tested, fixed, tested again, the other stuff that worked before retested to make sure you've not broken it and only once you're satisfied that it all works, implemented at a specific point (usually overnight, at a time of low usage). The fact that stuff is changing through the day demonstrates that it's being done on the fly, which implies it's being rushed, which implies that it won't be properly tested, which means there'll need to be further fixes, which will be rushed, which won't be properly tested etc etc etc.
And if anyone mentions Agile, there's gonna be a slat hoofing...
Agile...

If you remind me what your github username is I can add you as a contributor and try to work out how to add you on the chrome add-on store thing too. If I can't add you on chrome I can just try transfer ownership if you want. I don't really have much interest in the tool anymore...
IHN, you mean this is the MVP?

Agile doesn't mean deploy to prod without going through testing!
Yep, don't see any buttons here.
IHN, you mean this is the MVP?
Well, it's certainly a minimum product, so it depends as to whether you agree with Meatloaf and two out of three ain't bad...

I thought it meant that you were good at ducking the blame...
Apologies if this has been covered but is there still a way to look at a list of all the threads you've posted in, along with who the last post was by and when it was made?
There is no test environment.
There's at least two that I'm aware of.

Turning your phone to landscape has been reported by others as a workaround.
There’s at least two that I’m aware of.
well that's even worse then...
im guessing its been reported but going to old posts i can not see the first post of the thread.

Not currently, no, it got broke. Some of that functionality may be available in a Chrome Extension today or tomorrow, but it needs to be tested properly first 😉
*Scratches head* 🙂
This topic is marked as closed to new replies, however your posting capabilities still allow you to do so
Ta aracer.
It's great that someone can quickly design Chrome extensions to make websites do the things they used to do perfectly well, just shows what's possible with some talent and application eh? 😛

Don't say that. It's embarrassing enough already.
Anyone know what the expandable box at the bottom that says p or sometimes p > span in it is all about? This is all jolly good fun isn't it!
There is no test [s]environment[/s] plan.

I've already contributed on github and some of my code is in the released version (I did multi-page quoting - now that is certainly obsolete now, I'm going to delete all the code for that, but not for now to avoid breaking anything). I'm not atp if you need a better clue 😉 Not sure I'm likely to do a lot more with it, I've always hoped it would become unnecessary and it should now apart from for blocking people, but that all works and was easy to fix.
Though I note that updates have already broken some of what I'd done (very easy fix, but it's broken for now), so it feels like until it settles down it's maybe more suitable for sideloading rather than an "official release".
It’s great that someone can quickly design Chrome extensions to make websites do the things they used to do perfectly well, just shows what’s possible with some talent and application eh?
Well to be fair it's an existing extension and any new functionality (rather than just fixing stuff where html elements have been renamed) will be a horrible hack. But it will be vaguely tested before I hand it out.
Maybe this was Mark's plan all along? Show us that we can all pull together and fix the problems ourselves?* Like a team building exercise, where we all go out to the woods, and the next morning Barry from accounts has vanished and we never talk about it again.
*Well...get aracer to.
Drac what are the daily posting stats now versus before the change ?
If this was test are we in pre-prod yet?

im guessing its been reported but going to old posts i can not see the first post of the thread.
I just came to post up something that explains this - the posts are there, it's just that the posts in old threads are presented in a somewhat random order.
E,g, - this thread I started
http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/discountbicyclescouk-anyone-used-them/
My opening post is post 3.
EDIT - I've still not got any buttons for quoting, adding links, images etc
I don’t have that info Jamba but this thread alone gas probably kept then high.
I thought it meant that you were good at ducking the blame…
That's dodging or ducking and diving!
Request: can someone post a screenshot of the issue with the Post box scrolling / Submit button inaccessible on mobile devices please?

FWIW, I also have to put the phone in landscape mode to get the submit button on the image dialogue box onto the screen
Also, test a theory for me please? Is there a correlation between "no button bar" and "preview button not working"? Anyone have one and not the other?
The preview appears above the Post box, and takes a few seconds. You might have to scroll up slightly to see it.
Both appear on both of my devices
Ewwwwww!
Right-o, I've been out working and earning an honest daily crust all day, can someone please summarise the fixes that have been done today and what now works, which might be the shortest approach 😉
Still no communiques of anything I can see from whoever, obviously likes to keep their customers in the dark. Which is as per from businesses within the marketing and communications and social media and news sector/s really... :~

I have no idea regarding reported posts or such ...
Yes, no buttons whatsoever. Also preview still doesn't work. I have the preview button but it does not work even when I click it. As for the rest of the buttons I just get blank page. I am using latest Firefox browser btw.
Even when I switch to IE it is the same. 🙂
Completely unscientific and subjective but I feel like this forum is significantly less busy than it used to be. Threads don't seem to drop down/disappear anywhere near as quickly.
I have no button bar, I have a Preview button but it doesn't work. Also the Reply buttons below each post only scroll the reply box into view - are they supposed to also quote the post?
I presume it's somehow related to scripts or style sheets which are downloaded separately?
I'm only popping in once or twice a day now. I'm struggling to find the threads I'm interested in an got fed up of the broken quotes etc. I'll probably use it more when it's all fixed.

Hmm, I'm intrigued, because checking the source (in order to sort out the extension) there are clearly two different ways of quoting, because there are two different sets of tags in the code. I'm manually adding [quοte] tags, but Cougar and scotroutes (amongst others) are clearly doing something different - presumably using the buttons. When you use the buttons how do the tags/quote appear in the reply box?
I have no button bar, I have a Preview button but it doesn’t work.
this and also having to manually quote....which i am quite good at for some reason 😉
