Just tried to open the thread on anticsemetic mail and the forum is trying to download a 34kb file. I'm using opera on Android. Anyone else experiencing similar?

Yep on iPad it just asks me if I want to download to Dropbox. Works on my phone  so i don’t have to resort to real world conversations yet.

Cheers Spacemonkey.

I’ve reported the issue and highlighted the thread.

Hi guys,

Sorry about this - we know what this is. It's not a virius or anything bad.

Page caching is causing some browsers to try and download the cached file as an image file rather than html. As such it's harmless - in that it's not a virus. it's the actual page you are trying to access. It's being fixed now but if you could let us know your browser and platform that will help us.

Mime types?

It was OSX 10.6, all three browsers, for me.

Issue should be fixed now but let us know if you are having any issues.

It was related to older browsers not being able to accept gzip as a method of receiving cached pages - which is why it was affecting older browsers. I'm loathe to say that keeping browsers updated is a good idea but I know some people don;t have that option. We've deactivated the gzip method of page caching so that we get maximum accessibility but unfortainately this does mean that the method used is not as efficient or as fast as the gzip option. So, updated browser users are losing out on a faster caching method.

We are trying to find a way around this so that the majority get the super efficient and latest caching benefits while the users with old browsers still work.

The browsers I used accept gzip, as far as I know… are the correct headers included? For even older browsers, Accept/Content-Encoding headers should allow you to serve up non gzip just for those… but if you're just using a plugin that serves up flat gzip files, and can't default back to non gzip files for browsers that don't accept gzip, then that's no use to you.

Windows Phone 8.1 and IE; I could see some threads but not others without downloading

Ironically, I haven't been able to see this thread on either Win 10/Firefox or Linux/Firefox, it appeared not as a file but as some wording on the STW webpage that amounted to it not being accessible (I can't remember what it said, but it was a coding format of some sort)

All fixed this afternoon

It  was just this thread using Mac OSX Yosemite and the latest version  of Chrome. I'd get an XML document being shown.
