You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
No doubt everyone is aware that there will be no spectators at this years cup, though it is in may and hopefully all lockdown and prevention of movement will have been relaxed.
So what if you were to be camping in the area about May time,As we all know its free to roam in Scotland, and you can camp anywhere you want to and just happened to go for a walk/cycle/jaunt on or around the weekend(or days its running).
And be like a stealth supporter.
Just posting this out there should anyone feel like a camping holiday and were wondering where to go....
Cant see anyone official or otherwise telling you to naff off, or them being able to prevent walkers/hikers from accidentally stumbling onto the course and deciding thats a good spot to take a break and have a picnic 😕
The whole area is normally covered by a Section 11 order during the WC so access rights do not apply.
You can't camp anywhere you want to either btw.
You can’t camp anywhere you want to either btw.
OK we'll call that pretty much anywhere
Drive anywhere, pull into a layby and walk 50m away from the car and pitch a tent. I've been doing this for decades and not ever once had anyone come up and say you cant camp here.
" What is a Section 11 Order Scotland?"
" 5.27 section 11 of the Bill aims to clarify that a person under the age of 16 can seek and obtain a contact order under section 11 of the 1995 Act despite the fact that, under section 11(2)(b) of the 1995 Act, a person under 16 cannot obtain an order granting them PRRs (unless the person is a parent of the child)"
sure thats the right thing you're referring to 😕
Yes i expect you cant go to certain places when grouse or deer hunting season is open. But im not talking about ACTUALLY ON an mtb course, just next to it. Whole of FW isnt in lockdown.
Maybe im just too much the rebel eh
I bet the organisers haven't considered this loophole at all. You are cunning like a fox.
Access code says you shouldn't camp near a road, and various other things.
Section 11 is correct.
” What is a Section 11 Order Scotland?”
Ah. You seemed so clued up about access rights that I just assumed you'd know that. Sorry.
Firmly Rule 1 territory for me
Ah. You seemed so clued up about access rights that I just assumed you’d know that. Sorry.
Well im terribly sorry for posting not only what the section 11 order is in Scotland, so stupidly though posting the reference to it would be ok.
Google it and theres a list of what it means, and for relevance and accuracy one of them states "What is a section 11 order Scotland" so I just copy and pasted that.
Stupid to do that, to give people both references. tsk tsk I should have just posted what the order stated and left the reference out.
I'll not make that mistake again, sure as fk dont want to confuse anyone with the wrong order.
You are making yourself look silly now.
Hundreds of people are going to have exactly the same idea as you and it'll be a nightmare for the organisers when the 'stealth supporters' start popping up all over the track.
Don't be a dick and watch it on Red Bull.
You do that, others do it and all of a sudden live sport is banned because the idiots can’t just be patient for a year.... out accommodation rebooked for 2022.
But im not talking about ACTUALLY ON an mtb course, just next to it.
No, you can’t be next to the track. Access rights are not valid during the implementation of the Section 11 order. No access rights anywhere Nevis Range can claim “curtilage” either.
I wouldn't recommend camping next a layby either. A lot of people around Fort William have bad memories of "dirty" camping and bad parking last summer and are worried that this year will be the same.
Access rights really was not intended for sleeping next to the road and shitting in a layby. Even more points lost if you do it in a passing place
You are making yourself look silly now.
That started with the first post 🙂
A lot of people around Fort William have bad memories of “dirty” camping and bad parking last summer and are worried that this year will be the same.
That's not really a new thing, it's just getting worse. But that's not even considering the flying bastards.
@dyna-ti just stay away, you're neither wanted nor needed and as others have pointed out could be putting other events at risk, at this stage that could include promoters and livelihoods. FW has a great rep, don't throw that away.
I wouldn’t recommend camping next a layby either. A lot of people around Fort William have bad memories of “dirty” camping
Dirty camping ? you just make that term up to suit the thread 😕
So how does the massiv feel about building miles of track on someone else's land , or even public land for that matter. Double standards at play here methinks. Out witht he spades and axes, clear cutting someone else's brush.
RAPING THE LAND
😆 😆
Dirty camping is a thing. If you were as ‘up’ on access issues as you think you are then you’d know about it.
The second bit of your post: you’re not making the point you think you are.
Rule 1.
I looked up 'Dirty Camping' and yes indeed is is an issue and a real thing.
But i dont leave a mess, so why then should I be tarred with the same brush ?. In fact i walk the area im camping in and pick up any litter i find, and also when im leaving, to leave no trace.
How many threads are here on tarps and bivvy bags. Are they also guilty of 'dirty camping' just because they stop to get a sleep.
Or can the same argument be applied to people who cycle offroad as the majority here, with folk who tear about on motocross churning it all up.
Hardly fair to start blasting at folk and start introducing negatives into a thread, just because you disagree with one section of it, what is this a supplement to the Daily Mail ???.
Talk of sneaking onto the DH to watch it.and getting accused of destroying the land and leaving a mess.
In fact this now springs to mind
Captain Macmorris, if you take my words in some way other than how they were meant, see, I’ll have to think you’re not treating me with the good will you ought to, see, since I am as good a man as yourself, both in the practice (of war) and in my country of origin and in other respects.
What you say you do and all the other bikepackers do in the wilds is VERY different to what you’re suggesting you’ll do just because a WC is on.
Do you honestly think no one else will think they can do what you’re suggesting? Do you not see that this is completely against the reasons for making the event spectator free?
You’re not being clever and you’re breaking rule 1.
If, and it’s a big if, you’d decided to walk in to the race hill from two valleys and two days walking away, bivvying wild by yourself, and sat on a rock at a distance to watch and you hadn’t told a major UK mountain biking forum about your plans beforehand then maybe you’d be ok. Ish. But not really.
You’re defending the indefensible.
I didn't accuse you or anyone else of anything. Just tried to make you aware that there may be a lot of others wanting to camp next to their car so it might be difficult to get a spot. Secondly if you do get a spot you might encounter some hostility from scunnered locals
My neighbour is having a birthday party tomorrow.

I’d be phoning too, or its a slap in the face to the nurses and doctors who’ve been trying to cope with this pandemic. But if you hear a commotion outside, dont go out 😆
You would grass on a neighbour but get upset when you want to attend an event that is spectator free and are called out on it.
I think I’ll call Troll on this one. Mainly due to the deflections and trying to start argumentative whattabouttery
