a lot of you talk about it in the F1 thread to the point I feel it deserves its own thread
then I thought I’d watch one as I haven’t since the first season..... my god it’s soooo rubbish
i recognise a lot of the drivers as those that just couldn’t cut it in F1, and the cars are really slow (and whiny obvs.)
Also why have a safety car, it goes so slowly they could just replace it with a mobility scooter or something
54kwh batteries this year and hour long races. So they average 72bhp!
6 minute races is the solution.
No. Proper engines are the solution.
It is pretty poor

F1 fan moans about whiny cars. Lol.

Go watch some touring cars...

Esports F1 is where it's at, miles better than both of the reality versions. Irony is of course that without the reality, the electronic version can't really exist in the same way.
I tried watching, its pants. They sound terrible and the street races mean they can only overtake at certain corners by out braking. Watching RC cars race is better, they were the original battery powered cars after all.
Fan boost you say?
Roflcopter.
The Monte Rally is a good watch...
Ultimately, like most sport, the money an technology being thrown at it all turns sport into science businesses, which is so far away from where sport should be.
As an avid F1 fan, I've got to say it will take over. But by the back door in f1 rather than as a rival series.
Edit: love this new font btw
Fan boost. Crap.
swapping cars halfway through a race. Crap.
whining, no big deal.
Ive sat through a couple of races and tbh, it just looks slow.
it should be more like ‘ X amount of power to do Y amount of laps’
throw some strategy into the mix.
fan boost, wtf.
I think it's all change next year. Full races on 1 battery and more power.
This thread has every clichè in it, didn't know clarkson had so many login's.
I watched a race last year and really enjoyed it, more so than F1. The cars are clearly quite hard to drive and from the way they move around obviously have limited grip which makes it more engaging to watch. There's as much overtaking as in F1. The car swap is a bit lame but that's going with the new cars for the 2018/2019 season .
I told myself I'd watch more of it but, to be honest, while rallying exists I don't have time for lesser motorsports. Monte Carlo was a great season opener.
The FIA have given approval to an electric saloon car race series, using Teslas, although Tesla themselves haven’t given their blessing.
Could be a lot of fun, a bunch of 700hp saloons with howling tyres but no engine noise, if it’s anything like the Touring Car championships with a take-no-prisoners attitude!

I'd like to see a no holes barred E' engined race car, money nor tech no object. Fastest wins..
I'f it runs out of battery on the first lap the driver must push it around the track to the pits then change the battery himself etc. etc. until the race laps are completed.
That'll get the tech heads thinking about power/usage/longevity...
I don't like seeing electric cars in motorsport, it just doesn't seem right and lets face it they're just dull compared to something with an internal combustion engine.
I can appreciate the technology that goes into them but for me a battery and an electric motor just isn't the same as an engine & gearbox with 100's of moving parts all working in sync that somebody spent hours building.
Safety is a bit of a concern with them too due to the massive voltage the battery produces and toxic fumes and burn times of the battery. I know the Msa won't allow hybrid or electric vehicles run at an event unless there is 40,000 litres of water available for putting a fire out!

Petrol will make a bit of a mess if it gets out the tank too..........

Well they might be a bit dull now but the technology will develop and they'll get faster.
Don't worry I'm sure we'll still be racing ICE cars for a while yet, after all we still race horses
Petrol will make a bit of a mess if it gets out the tank too
I'd still rather sit near a tank of petrol than a load of batteries. Petrol burns pretty quickly and can be extinguished, lithium ion battery fires can take hours to put out and then theres still the danger of reigniting 24 hours afterwards!
a pretty much full GT fuel tank... (and upside down so the marshal's couldnt get to the cut off switches)
took, if i remember correctly 15x 15kg powder bottles to knock the flames down, and a good 15-20x foam bottles to keep it out
And, its only now, nearly 9 years later is the grass starting to grow over the patch of ground the car landed on.
^^^ whats that thing around the cockpit ? looks like a roll cage..
bigdeanThis thread has every clichè in it, didn’t know clarkson had so many login’s.
And ironically all you could think of as a retort was the lamest and most played out cliche of all - anyone who like cars/dislike ev's is Jeremy Clarkson. It's an incredibly dull sport, and the worst thing they could have done was model themselves on F1 because they're going to suffer with such a direct comparison. The logical progression for EV racing would be as part of F1.
If you've got a clean sheet of paper try something new.
