If the whole brakes thing is true, in that Ferrari's brakes are very different to the ones used at Mercedes, that's going to massively affect Lewis' performance.

I find it odd that the Ferrari is supposedly designed to be driven with significant use of engine braking. That seems an odd way to design a car. (I mean, not that I know much about designing race cars—but aside from it simply being unusual as far as I’m aware, and thus presumably demanding an unorthodox corner entry, surely it inhibits the ability to manage the brake balance.)

Blimey.... Max has admitted he was in the wrong. Not actually apologised, but still....progress

My understanding is that the regenerative braking is used to assist with brake balance. That can be tuned by software settings to make the "engine braking" more or less powerful. I think that Hamilton really means that the Ferrari has a different regenerative braking map than the Merc and it's tricky to adapt to. However, Leclerc and Sainz seemed to be able to deal with it.

Both of whom had/have been there for years and have 'grown up' with the system - they've not been hugely competitive for some of that time also.  LH has been in the car just a 'few months'.

Did seem strange that LH did pretty well in quali and was looking forward to race day but then all of a sudden his car just wouldn't grip like it did the day before [which Leclerc's did]. 🤔

DC squirming while trying to find a way to describe Max Verstappen’s behaviour in a positive light was a highlight of the race for me

10 seconds for that mad Max move made George's drive through last week seem pretty harsh!

George needs to learn to keep his mouth shut on the radio!

Over the course of the last two races Issac Hadjar has outscored Red Bull

Not relevant to anything, I just like that.

Hadjar has been seriously impressive all season. Fast, measured, and hasn’t really put a foot wrong. (Overlooking Melbourne where pretty much everyone dropped it at some point.)

I just hope he doesn't get the call up for Red Bull, or if he does he says "No thanks "

I think only one of Red Bull’s four contracts allows the driver a “no thanks” option 🙂

I'd like to see Hadjar and Tsunoda both in the Red Bull just to see if the team can actually make the car drivable for other drivers, and also how slow it is if they do.

He was peed off following a series of minor problems and being ordered to concede to Russell. There's a fine line between competitive and angry

So MV has 2 points expiring after the Austrian GP, so 2 races where he has to be on his best behavior, then he's 3 points clear of a ban again until November.

He sounds all cool about the title challenge this season when speaking about it, but when he's driving its a dfferent matter. He doesn't like not being at the front!

will that make the stewards less reluctant give him a penalty given that RB will challenge it all the way. They will want to

male sure they are on solid ground and that there are lots of presidents to support them

That'll be a difficult thing to Grant. They might be accused of lying and have to say "nah, it's Truman" or else Verstappen could Hoover up the remaining points. It'd be like him playing a Trump card.

Unusual for a Sky presenter to comment like this, they usually don’t like to upset the teams too much. I wonder if Newey is making his presence felt, he’s not shy at expressing his driver preferences…

For those wanting to follow LeMans this week, but don't want to pay Discovery+ £31 you can subscribe to WEC TV for about £16 (or £44 for rest of season)...

...I've decided to do this rather than play whack-a-mole with dodgy streams.

Probably not much, with Lando immediately taking the blame for the crash. Now if he’d taken the other road and called Piastri a **** and claimed he tried to kill him - now that would’ve been good entertainment!

I would imagine that it’s a tad uncomfortable in there right now.

is it just me, or did piastri move slightly to the left while defending as the accident happened?

not that it makes any difference.

Meanwhile, in an apparent attempt to take the lead in the Irony Championship, Red Bull went to the stewards to complain about “unsportsmanlike intent”.

Watching Drive to Survive with the missus has got her into F1. I watched as a youngster but it became a borefest compared to two wheeled racing. We watch  together (romance!). She loves it.

Anyways, Norris has basically given away the championship now. Idiotic attempt at intimidation. I’ll go so far as say he’ll be No. 2 to Oscar from now on.

Loving the Ferrari chat. Amazes me how they all are so calm talking at race pace.

Also love the presidential puns 🤣🤣🤣

Last, she called me a racist for explaining my position on Yuki. He’s a marketing token imo.

Honda have played a blinder getting him in a Red Bull - now they'll know it's not worth their time trying to shoe-horn him into an Aston Martin next season! 😀

I'll probably go - F1 site reviews are generally that the on track camera work is very good though the racing scenarios don't stand up to closer inspection, and that there's a lot of over explanation of things for those who don't follow F1. Oh and representation of women in motorsport is lacking.

But if it replaces the feeling when I saw the Monaco lap from the Senna film on the big screen that'll be worth the price of admission.

So then; Russell fastest in FP1. Hamilton over half a second back although sounds like he had car problems (was in & out for gearbox issues).
I wonder if he regrets his decision to move to Ferrari? It must be hard not to look at how the Merc is starting to perform & think 'oh, bugger'.

Hoping for a good one this weekend.

He was being pushed out of Mercedes for Antonelli and had no contract with them for 2025 onwards.

Much like Russell will get the boot if Toto can convince Max to join them.

And I always thought 2025 was a getting used to each other season anyway. Ferrari changing their front suspension was also an indicator to the way they want to go in 2026 too.

I thought he had a one+one contract, so could have carried on into '25 or taken the option to jump ship after a year, which is what he did?

I don't remember there being any talk/gossip/news about him being pushed out. The chance to put Antonelli in the car was fortunate, but that came about because Hamilton didn't carry on into the final year of the contract.

He did have a +1 deal but was clearly given the cold-shoulder (and +1 works both ways) - in that the deal they were offering was shite considering what he had done for Mercedes and the fact he'd always driven with Mercedes power.

Very much a you're not wanted anymore 'deal'.

I think Mercedes were stunned to lose him. Even if he wasn't winning races, he was a great ambassador for the brand. He left because Merc couldn't give him a competitive car, not because Merc didn't want him.

Hamilton's past it; Wolff saw that after 3 seasons of George Russell being better than him in equal machinery. LeClerc is better than Hamilton, this is painfully obvious now. One lucky sprint race win aside this season, Hamilton no longer has the winning edge. As for Russell; if Wolff wants Max, then something's got to give, and it would be better for George to leave than end up second best to Verstappen. We saw with the likes of Coulthard, Webber, Massa and Barrichelllo; you might be great at winning the odd race, but ultimately, your teammate is better than you. That must be quite hard to live with tbh.

They were stunned in much the same was as Alpine were stunned when Piastri signed for McLaren - Mercedes thought they held all the cards! 🤣

They thought he was such a great ambassador Mercedes weren't prepared to offer him a lifetime ambassador deal as many other F1 champions have been given in the past!

Lewis isn't done yet - and as for Leclerc - in the tradition of many a Ferrari driver I predict he'll never win a championship.

That's what I thought about Jenson Button too. But then Honda/Brawn went from a joke to the class of the field and he made it look easy. Next year, it's anyone's guess which car and engine will be on top.

I'm no huge Hamilton fan but I think thats more than unfair.  Perhaps Hamilton didn't want to take risks to finish one place higher and the midpack and he has always had issues if the car his not to his liking.

I think in a competitive car he would be competitive

I know it's edited in a way to make it more dramatic TV, but watching the last season of Drive to Survive it certainly seemed like a shock to Toto and Mercedes when Lewis announced he was leaving. They wouldn't have been scrambling to find a replacement if the plan had been to force him out?

Having read the article regarding MV going to Mercedes,  I can't see Verstappen going unless the team revolve around him like Red Bull. Another sticking point would be money, $75 million at Red Bull??

So it'll probably happen.

George is very similar to button. Good but not world champion material unless the car gives him a huge advantage. The fact that Mercedes would rather risk losing George for a chance at max tend you ask you really need to know. Where would George go off Max signed? Would rb want him? Could he drive a max car

I do wonder what factors drive F1 decisions. On one hand they are team involved in a competitive environment where winning is meant to be important. So on that score you get the best driver you can afford/justify. On the other hand you are financed mostly as a mobile billboard - you need companies to want to pay you many many millions of pounds to be associated with you, and they do that because consumers of whatever they do will think more favourably of you because of that association. Verstappen as a personality is divisive at best and a turn off at worst. Would I want my widget associated with Verstappen - **** no! I'd rather my widget was associated with a cool team with likable drivers who all looked like they were having a good time rather than a right fister of a human being who just happened to be epic and driving in circles. Even if they were not the most winningest of team/car/driver combos.

As a team principle, you'd also know that signing him would mean spending more time being nice to the rancid turd that is his father. If you had a choice, would you do it to yourself?

Gasly distorted the picture but Lando has been about 0.15 up on Piastri all weekend. But there's still a fair chance Piastri gets the top step tomorrow.
