My brother passed away last week and I have been given his laptop to try and get into to pass onto a relative but obviously I don't have his log in. Any Ideas how to either log in or system restore from scratch. ? Many thanks Stanfree.
There are Linux distros that can help you with this, Kali should have the tools. I can't remember the exact name of it.
Sorry to hear that Stan.
Do you want to access files on the laptop or wipe everything so it's a 'new' PC?
I had a similar problem at work with a Windows 7 Laptop. I used the guide here, which worked. There do appear to be similar guides on this site for other versions on Windows as well (links in 'related articles' below the guide).
As above - make a USB stick to boot from, then there are various bits of software that will help you reset the password.
Thanks for the replies , I don't need to access the Pc as I know he only used his phone and not the laptop so a complete restore is probably the best bet.
