I was in Vienna at the weekend and they have e-scooters everywhere that you can rent with an app. They are great, really fast and you can use them in the abundant cycle lanes, downside is that they are a bit pricey. They have them in other European cities too. At around 400 euro to buy as well, 22kph and small and compact.

Class!!

No, it's definitely e-bicycles.

Active travel innit.

The ones showing full battery said that they had about a 20km range. Pretty good for a city. Oh and you can also push them along by foot for activity.

Think they aren't legal to use over here.

On most electric scooters, the deck is too high for comfortable efficient kicking. Also tiny wheels, not much good if you hit a pothole, or hop up a kerb etc.

Yes, they are illegal in the UK, both on roads and on pavements.

They also make any grown adult look like a massive fin de cloche.

They are not, in the news quite a bit because of the rising numbers. Because they are self propelled they are seen in same way as a motorbike, whereas an e-bike is not self propelled so is seen in same way as bicycle.
Pity as they are a good solution for short commutes as easy to carry into office rather than rely on leaving a bike somewhere.

Thats what I was thinking, the ones for sale in the shop windows were in the 400 euro range, pretty cheap compared to E-bikes and easy to store and maintain.

They are the norm there though, also loads of adults on the normal, non-powered variety.

Seen a few of them in Mcr lately, there's a grain of truth to the bell end thing.

Let's just have a higher limit on e-bikes though, eh?

Have you seen the majority of cyclists?

Brilliant idea IMO, and a solution to a lot of city congestion issues.

Maybe CFH doesn’t like em’ because they’ll scuff his brogues 🤷‍♂️

you don’t see many old farts on them tbf. We were in Marseille yesterday, they were everywhere, I can confirm they are both very handy & an absolute hoot 👍

I was in Copenhagen last month. E scooters were everywhere, and all sorts of people were using them, from kids to pension age people.
They didn’t look seems like bellends because none of them were trying to be cool, they were just going about their business.

Seemed like a clever way of getting about to me, and they weren’t causing any problems. I expect the UK to catch up by about 2035, after more than a decade of controversy and needless prosecutions. It’s now we do things here.

It is annoying how we are so far behind with these things. Funny enough Vienna was ranked no.1 most liveable city recently and I think London came in at 48th.

Must be the scooters
