elite is an awesome game but am rubbish at it.everytime i have played it i either run out of fuel (overzealous use of the hyperdrive 😳 ,smash into docking station whilst trying to dock 😳 (no autopilot) or get blown up by pirates 😡

edit they have updated it (david braben is still onboard) http://elite.frontier.co.uk/ looks fab but the cost 😯

after a previous elite revival thread on here I was introduced to the X3 series, lots of hours wasted.

who knew organising 30+ transporter ships and manipulating markets could be so addictive?

£200 to be an alpha tester. Bugger that. You want me to test your game, you should be paying me, not the other way around.

I kickstarted one of the competitors a while back, Star Citizen. When they released a tech demo that required 8Gb of RAM, I started to wonder whether perhaps I'd backed the right horse...

I also backed Star Citizen, great ideas for the game but can't see it all happening anytime soon. With pax on this weekend I'd hoped for the dog fighter patch. 🙁

Elite was easy once you got the hang of it. There was a dead simple way to dock.

Get the station on the left planet on right ( or vica versa) fly into gap looking out the left view when you are lined up with space station entrance dead slow go to front view turn straight onto station and fly in simples

IIRC the trick is to use your rear gun, look out the back, fly at full speed and reverse the controls. That way all the baddies fly in behind you and are easy to pick off. Only look out the front and normalise the controls when you want to dock.

Its even easier on oolite. Fly up to the navigation bouy. Be careful to slow right down as crashing into it when going fast hurts! When you are right on it slow to a stop get station in front of you and fly in going really slow at the last bit. You have to match the spin on oolite which i dont remember from the original elite.

Bet bit about oolite is the ease of hacking the note pad save file and adding a few , dozen, zeros in the credits section

Fly right up to station, stop, fly towards planet, then turn around and fly back towards station you will be right in front of the door. Wait for it to turn level and hit the gas.

Yeah, you did, lovely when you got it perfectly right with an analogue joystick.
