There's Castell Coch of course and Garwnant, where else? Closer to Cardiff the better.

Cwmcarn is an obvious one.

Goytre Wharf, just north of Pontypool has a small forest walk and can be combined with a canal stroll or a higher level climb on to the ridge (plenty of forest up there too!)

Tintern. Some wonderful forest walks around there and bound to be some cafes in the village

Top end of Pontsticyll Reservoirs above Merthyr. There is a cafe on the road just before Torpantau climb which is possibly open on the weekend? Otherwise you can walk all the way around the reservoir to the one on the Brecon Mountain Railway.

I thought they'd cleared all the the forest/woods around around Goytre Wharf? A friend ran restaurant there until recently....
