Hi, the wife and I will be in the FoD for a few days in mid December and I'm after any tips of non-biking stuff / days out etc. Thanks.
What sort of thing do you like? Clearwell cave is quite interesting, there's Go Ape, 4x4 driving, a little steam train, walking, a few pubs, etc..
Dawn and dusk. go and look for boar.
There's the Sculpture trail at Beechenhurst is a nice walk and beautiful this time of the year because the leaves are changing colour. Symonds Yat Rock and Symonds Yat itself are definitely worth a visit, plus there's Mallards Pike and Cannop Ponds to stroll around. Taurus Crafts near Lydney and Harts Barn near Mitcheldean are also quite nice for a wander around. Close to the Forest you've also got the towns of Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth and Chepstow, which are all quite nice to visit. Hope this helps.
Go and get lost in Puzzlewood...maybe on mushrooms or hash for added giggles 😉
Agree with above, the Sculpture Trail from Beechenhurst [FOC] and Puzzlewood near Coleford [Entry Fee] are good for walking. Clearwell Caves and the scowle holes opposite are also worth a visit [Entry Fee]. In addition, the Dean Heritage Centre at Soudley [Entry Fee to main site] is worth half a day.
Of the surrounding towns, Monmouth is by far the most interesting. A trip along the Lower Wye Valley taking in Tintern Abbey is beautiful with the autumnal leaves and can be incorporated with a visit to Monmouth and Chepstow.
Whereabouts are you staying?
