to get out of this country - passport, wallet, towel (I blame Douglas Adams)

In the other country - it depends is this 1st or 3rd world?

If in the US = purveyors of good (i.e. non-domestic) cheese & beer, micro producers / breweries are counted as non-domestic 😉

If it's anything like Spain: marmite Carrefour Alcobendas, garam masala Embajadores and Carrefour Alcobendas and golden syrup Carrefour Alcobendas.

El Corte Ingles Sanchinarro should also furnish you with them and there's a shop on Santa Engracia, Alonso Martinez...

Happy New Year old chap. 😉

Don't bother with a dictionary, loudhailer or mobile phone.

They have ways of making you talk.

Cheers donsimon, though Carrefour Alcobendas is a bit of a drive for me - I end up ordering mail order from these guys: http://www.thefoodhall.es/

To the Grips: get out there, prebook a trip home in a month's time, see what's not available, and when you head back get it. There's nothing critical you'll need that you can't get in Germany.

OMG! The Food Hall has these.

Cheers mogrim

Whatever you do when you're there don't try any of the local fare as you might just find it's better than in the UK.

There use to be a 'British' shop in Cologne, we visited every month for Walkers Crisps, McVities Digestives and Tetley Tea.

The only things I missed in Finland were tea and vinegar. Not because I refused the Finnish way but the Finnish way for chips is not to have vinegar, and the tea wasn't to my taste 🙂
