Like a lot of peole out there, we're looking at buying a van and have come across a MK7 125ps T280 - immaculate and low miles
But - the 280 bit bothers me -seems quite a low payload - but would that be ok on a basic camper for 2 people
Anyone know anything about these and want to offer any thoughts and maybe points to look at when we view it properly?
Thanks
My old fully-converted (the works, inc pop-top) SWB Trafic came in at 2.2 tonnes on a weighbridge. 280 seems ok to me.
Watch out btw for having to pay the tax on it.
Trafic was:
Gross Payload (Kg) 1200
Gross Vehicle Weight (Kg) 3010
Kerb Weight (Kg) 1810
Towing Limit (Kg) 2000
Transit is:
Gross Payload (Kg) 1111
Gross Vehicle Weight (Kg) 2800
Kerb Weight (Kg) 1689
Towing Limit (Kg) 700
Watch out btw for having to pay the tax on it.
Do you mean the VAT?
I do.
As a Mk7 Transhit owner the top 5 things to look out for are;
1. rust
2. rust
3. rust
4. rust
5. Absolutely shite design and engineering with the only consideration being how quick and cheaply to throw the thing together on a production line and **** anyone in years to come who has to repair/service it.
There are plenty of 2.8t vans out there - Vivaro, Trafic, Transporter etc. Most with approx 1,000kg payload when empty.
It's a smaller than a 'big' transit, it's the equivalent of a new Transit Custom.
Back in the day Ford didn't make it easy for consumers calling everything Transit because it's easy to think you're getting a big 3.5t van rather than a mid size, 1t payload van.
2.8 ton is way more thn enough for a 2 berth camper.
