Van went in for an MOT today and whilst on the ramp the tester pointed out two minor leaks to rubber hoses on the NSR - one to the front of the NSR wheel and one to the rear, adjacent to what I think are the metal air con lines.
Liquid is yellow/green in colour. I'd assume coolant but not at the rear of the van. Any ideas?
I can't get it into a garage before next week and have a long drive planned over the weekend so am a bit concerned....
Have registered on the Ford forum earlier but thought I'd ask here too.
Thanks.
That is disappointing to hear on such a new van. I don't know what it is but for piece of mind before the long journey I'd have them replaced. Can you not get the MOT station to perform the rectification? Hose change should be easy enough with ramps.
Thanks Lotto but I'm back home now. MOT was done at kwik fit and none of the guys there had a clue, hence my post.
Are you sure it’s not the power steering fluid? Tourneos have a bit of a reputation for leaking through perished hoses in that department - there’s currently a backlog on repairs as Ford have run out of the hoses (been waiting two weeks for mine).
Assuming it’s a minor leak, you should be okay to keep driving if you keep the power steering fluid topped up while you join the queue for new hoses.
If it’s any consolation, apart from that, mine has been pretty dependable over the 3 years I’ve owned it.
Could be coolant or aircon fluid. The heater/aircon unit for the rear compartment is above and just behind the nearside rear wheel.
@ditch_jockey - would power steering hoses go to the rear of the van?
@jonm81 - thanks, that's sounds probable.
I'm going to check all levels before I leave anyway and just take it easy. Will get it in somewhere next week. I've got comprehensive breakdown cover anyway if the worst comes to the worst.
Just checked on mine and there are 2 short rubber hose sections joining rigid pipes just in front and behind the N/S/R wheel. These are definitely the coolant hoses for the rear compartment aircon/climate unit.
Hope this helps,
