Ford sync not working

The sync has stopped working on my wife’s car.

The radio and cd still work but the usb port no longer does and the sync in the menu doesn’t do anything when trying to select it, neither does the phone button. I don’t think paired phones connect via BT anymore either.

No power to usb port as the wireless phone charger has stopped working, but does so when connected to the ciggy socket via an adapter.

What’s going on then, fuse?

Tried resetting the sync by pressing and holding the power and skip button. It says “reset transmitted to sync module” or something like that but then the message must get lost in translation somewhere as it doesn’t fix the problem.

I also saw a sync reset method where you open the drivers door and then lock it and then shut it but I’m not sure this is possible as it unlocks immediately as is knows the door is open.

Any other suggestions?

I’m assuming that auto fuses are obvious when blown as I didn’t test continuity, just by eye.

Mine works ok, but it keeps asking for an update. My Ford service place will do it, but charges £100 “because the wifi is slow”. 🤨
I’ve tried downloading the relevant files onto a thumb drive, but when I try to install them, it says it can’t locate the files, or some such bollocks. 😖

I suspect your sync is newer than mine- it has never asked to be updated and I’m not sure if it can be.

In my experience (with '05 focus) not always. I had a fuse, somehow linked to the central locking, that had gone. Visually it looked ok, put a new one in and problem solved. Looking at the old and new side by side I could just about see that there was a fault with the older fuse.

This is probably irrelevant, as not sure sync you describe is same/similar to the android auto issue I had.
Ford (Galaxy) continually rejected 'USB device' which I assumed meant it knew the phone was there but didn't like it. Eventually bought a decent quality Anker cable and instantly resolved.
Combo of connections across other cables must just have been leading to messages that didn't match the issue.

Thanks- Sounds like I need to check the fuses a bit more thoroughly.

Nothing plugged in to the usb. The radio and CD and interface and menus all work, it’s just the Bluetooth, usb port and phone menus within the interface that have all stopped working.

Had this the other week on my mom's ranger. Fixed with a 3 pin reset/IT Crowd solution, turned it off and back on again, disconnected the battery and left it for a few minutes then reconnected. Bluetooth and everything started working again. Sync resets and everything else hadn't made a difference up to that point. I think it was sync 2 or 3.
