Anyone had one?

Happened today 200m after picking up the car from a service and MOT.

Limped back to the garage and they cleared the code. Switched it back on and it was OK.

Any thoughts? I know it is something to do with the throttle positioning sensor.

I've been getting an Engine Malfunction message on my SMax for the past 2 weeks upon start up. Drives fine with no issues or reduction in fuel consumption or excess smoke or soot out of the back, so been ignoring it. Taking to my local tomorrow to get it cleared and the diagnostics code read. Hopefully it's just a minor glitch that'll clear with a reset.

It can also be something to do with poor contacts on a wiring harness, I think to the throttle body. Big bucks to correct I think 🙁

Ours did it a few times but it only seemed to happen during hard acceleration in reverse where it got rev'd hard and then bogged down in a lurch/bunny hop fashion.

Ours used to clear after restarting the engine.

I posted on one of the Ford forums about it (same or similar user name) if you've searched you've probably already found it 🙂

Did it sort itself in the end, or did you avoid it by not accelerating hard in reverse?

It went when I gunned the engine away from the lights. It is the wife's car and she is unlikely to floor it.

It did it maybe three times in two years...sold it recently. It was a 1.6.

Ours had over 100k on it and the clutch was a bit sticky so taking off quickly in reverse often caused a bit of lurching and that seemed to set it off.

If you'd floored it I'd be tempted to leave it. I'd not mess with the wiring harness incase the connections are fragile and it gets damaged. Think its an issue with gold plated connectors in the harness.

P.S sticky clutch/difficulty pulling away smoothly was a tool free fix, every six months or so you just drain off a small amount of black gunky brake fluid at the clutch cylinder. Don't know what made it so manky all the time.

Well, I never knew you were that old HTS.

But, you drive a Ford Fusion, so I guess you must be....
