At least for outstanding schools, it appears.

I now think this is a deliberate policy.

Its like me coming up to you with a big **** off sword, on a whim, and informing you that tomorrow morning I will be lopping both your arms off. Oh... and your man veg.

Rightly, you'd probably be a bit miffed, and vocal about how, like, totally not fair it is that I'm allowed to deprive you of both your arms and your cobblers.

So the next morning when I turn up and say that I've had a rethink, and you can keep your spuds and your least favourite arm, and lop your bestest arm off, just because I can, and I'm a bastard, to everyone else it actually look like I'm being pretty reasonable

Stand by for a load of previously outstanding schools being downgraded when next assessed.

It does smack of that binners but normally they go out 'for consultation' with the extreme stuff so they don't look like they're climbing down too much when the final offering is just stupid rather than bonkers.

Interesting it's only 'top' schools excluded so possibly even good schools will be forced to convert.

Thje amount of effort schools and LA's have put into this is unbelievable - complete distraction from delivering a good education to children.

I think a lot of LA's will create Multi Academy Trusts anyway and move their entire school estate into them to avoid them being picked off one by one by the big chains.

Yep. See also: Junior Doctors Contract

"Oh okay, we'll delay the forced imposition of the new contract for a few days while we talk. Nothing will change but we'll look reasonable"

They only give a shit about Shareholder Value, the kids education is completely irrelevant.
