I view it as banter. Both parties have apologised for it. I think that should be the end of it. Hazard will get a ban - probably 3 matches and probably a warning from the police.

He kicked the ball from under him from what I can make out. Either way BB deserved it.

Player deserves no punishment imo.

This is sort of my stance.

Until we break the ludricous cycle of allowing over reacting to gain advantage/upper hand it will just continue and continue.

MTFU needs applying here

Disclaimer: I know nothing about football.

The kid refuses to return the ball, falling to the floor and rolling on top of it. The footballer kicks the ball out from under him - you can see the ball roll away - and a moment later as he goes to retrieve it the kid rolls over a couple of times either to try and get the ball again or to milk it.

If he'd kicked the kid off the ball, the ball would be on the near side of the kid.

No?

My first reaction was what a footballer! But then watching the video again, it seems that Hazard showed quite remarkable restraint. When the BB goes to ground, he uses his arms in a relatively passive way and then attempts to kick the ball out from under him. Then we get the heat of the moment over-reaction from all and sundry.

Fair play to the BB though. HIs injured pose suggests that he has taken a lot in from watching all the matches!

"wrong sport" post gets my vote for best post so far!

Seems ok to me, I am guessing the Belgian assumed a ruck had formed and was merely following he rules of a better game:

When a ruck has formed...the ball can be played only with your feet. No hands allowed.

So the ball boy should have been sin binned at the very least.

Never mind a ruck forming, the BB held onto the ball while not on his feet. Should've been a penalty...

[oh, Pringles and Haribo (OK, I know they're not actually people)]

I struggle with long sentences

Read about it and was disappointed when I watched it

BB was an idiot for what he did
Hazard was an idiot for what he did but it wa shardly an assault

Both said sorry so lets all just move on.

The ballboy is nearly 18, if you saw him fighting outside a pub you wouldn't call him a kid.

If he was my son and an adult was kicking him the stomach then yes I would.

Would have made for a better spectacle if all the other ballboys had piled in.

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/league-cup-nevin-ball-boy-disgraceful-101809951.html

Asked if he would have done the same as Hazard, Nevin said: "I would have kicked the ball from beneath the ball boy, yes 100 per cent. Sorry that's not very right on, but I would have."

Cheating by wasting time.
Cheating by exaggerating injury.

Can't imagine where the lad gets his ideas from.

Nahhh ... just kick the ball boy for trying to be an a***.

Some good kicking will do him good too after all it's just football.

Older and stronger my arse he was 17 bloody years old...I heard the story and assumed he was 10-12years old!

The ballboy actually deserved a kicking for his antics.

(not that I know the first thing about soccer)

Play acting on the field of play should have a serious punishment. If you go down like you were shot from a little tap, the fourth official should be allowed one live round from a full bore rifle to make it so.

Any parent would but not stomach-kicking happened so kind of irrelevant to the OP don't you think...

Is that it?
The Belgian just kicked the ball.
Doesn't even look like he made contact with the kid,
Whatever the player may be, he should be let off any punishment based on that clip alone.
The kid, however, should be birched on the centre spot next home game for being a proper twunt.

Looking at it from that POV I agree. The ball boy should be ridiculed to within an inch of his dignity!

The more you look at it the more obvious that the red card should be replaced by a commendation.

except he wont. in the old days mebbes, but these days he'll be a hero to his mates, for cheating to get a chelsea player sent off and helping his side win. "another drink you say? oh go on then. hello laydeez...whats that you say? yes it was me, want a drink?"

Caught a clip - makes you wonder if Katie (?) actually watched the clip. Even by STW standards, her account was a gross distortion of what happened. But makes a headline!

he did a fine job of wasting time for his dads club. he'll probably get given an upgrade from an audi a1 to an audi a3 for his efforts.

So is there likely to be another wendyball statue as a result of this then?

Just asking...

i hate chelsea more than the average fan, but on this occasion, the incident's not that bad. Watching that ball boy (he's too ****ing old to be one!) writhe around like a ponce got me quite annoyed. Hazards red card is fair enough but the bitchass ball boy should be banned from every ground in the country for life.

Love,

long suffering arsenal fan.

Apart from a grown man kicking a football upon which a child was lying.

You are all aware that the child lying on the football, however stupid, doesn't get paid 20 grand an hour and actually isn't another footballer aren't you?

I'm glad I've been involved in this thread anyway, thanks very much. I understand now that despite the law stating very clearly that I can't go around aiming kicks at children because they're behaving like dickheads, if I wear a pair of shorts and get myself overpaid, it's all perfectly fine.

Could you all let me know where your children will be tonight please so I can get round there and give 'em a good kicking. Thanks. It's all perfectly legal and you have absolutely no cause to complain.

Wow Samuri - are we talking about the same incident? No one is advocating violence to anyone let alone a child. That's ridiculous. People have looked at the incident closely and come to the conclusion that Hazard was (1) surprisingly relaxed (watch his arms at the start - anything rough there?) and (2) that he kicked the ball away from under the BB (nb, what happened to the ball?). Strip away the emotion and others are correct - where is the actual violence?

I am not one to shy away from having a dig at wendyballers, but in this case, the reports and accusations have got so far removed from the reality, that its verging on the hysterical and ridiculous.

I dunno, I'm just having a laugh. I'm astounded people care to be honest and I'm quite impressed at how much getting involved in this thread has paid back.

What's really wrong with the situation is that the footballer felt this was something he should be dealing with. It's not his ball, he's in an official game with people in charge who aren't him. If there's an issue then he should be letting the officials deal with it. All he's done here is given the daft lad the airtime he so desired.

I imagine TJ is looking down from heaven, and crying with pride, at such a well executed defence born from the Scottish capital.

the ballboys primary function is to get the ball back to the players so that play can continue with minimum time loss.

This 17 year old took it upon himself to **** around and not return the ball.

He got a little tap from a bigger boy for his troubles. And a bit of fame.

No one looks good out of this, they are all losers.

One thing it isn't though is child battery.
