if this is the insulting way they respond to one of their better and more committed players thinking about leaving?
Do you recall the way they treated Dave?
It was disgusting!
We all loved him! He’d been the difference, our best player season after season, the only one keeping us in games we should have lost. He’d bailed out the club with game-changing saves week in, week out, and the way they treated him was embarrassing and insulting
They decided they wanted Onana so they just ran down Daves contract and refused to even discuss keeping him at Old Trafford
Uniteds loss was Fiorantina’s gain. He must be laughing his tits off at his replacement who has the worst stats in the league for goalkeeping howlers.
Doesn't look like Serie A’s player of the season, Scott McTominay, is exactly missing Old Trafford either.
United is now just a big payday for journeymen players and managers and a cash cow for agents. A graveyard for careers. I honestly think they’ll be relegation fodder next season. The whole club is just a complete basket case now. Sir Jim deserves a slow handclap for what he’s delivered this season. ‘Worse than the Glazers’ is quite a title to hold
Interesting BBC article here Binners. Commercial trip to Asia, Monaco, private jet and boo-ing content.
Unfortunately I think selling Fernandez may actually improve your chances Binners. It's clear there are deep rooted problems in the squad and ultimately he's the captain. The players simply do not look happy or motivated and haven't for years, despite being paid a truck load. Excuses can be made about the Glazers and other off field stuff but that wouldn't affect the players if the leadership and camaraderie were right.
When Bielsa came in at Leeds he quickly got rid of the players that didn't fit in to his way of thinking, regardless of how good they were, including our best defender and most skilful attacking player at the time. Those that remained and listened achieved more than they could have ever imagined in their career as they bought in to the great man. As you will remember, he turned lower half championship journey men into players in and around the national team. Look how much better your own players are when sold or loaned elsewhere!
That trip at the end of the season just looked awkward and that no one wanted to be there.
It looked even worse that the club works cup thing that starts soon
Cheers for that link Watty. Not of that surprises me. It backs up what the sports reporter in the Guardian summarised in a scathing article when he said that United isn’t even a football club any more, it’s a theme park
chestrockwell - I hope you’re right, but it’s difficult to feel any positivity about the club and it’s direction of travel. Obviously, as a Leeds fan, there’s not much I need to tell you about that. You compressed the decline into a few seasons and it’s a long way back from there, but you’re back again this season.
Everyone loved watching Bielsa-ball too. Entertaining stuff! And at the end of the day, that’s what all fans of any club want

It is mate and he achieved it with players who were destined for mid table Championship careers at best. Cooper was know as League One Liam for a reason! I'd have never believed the correct coach with a disciplined, fit, motivated but bang average team could play so far beyond what any of us expected. Reverse of your current mob I guess?
Well, whomever considers themselves contenders for Champions of Europe, you've just been given a new benchmark.
That was as one sided a game as I’ve seen for a while. Pray for Spurs in August!
They aren’t as good as Arsenal. Apparently.
The most one-sided Champions League final since Peps Barca took us to pieces at Wembley
I didn't know the context or story but I've just been reading about the PSG Xana tifo.
That's today sorted then, house needs a right good dusting obviously.
Looks like Bruno is staying for now - not sure if that is a blessing or a curse 🤣 🤣
Always worth a re-watch….
Big Ange has been sacked. I wonder who’s next through the revolving managerial door at Spuds then? Someone who’ll keep them up next season?
Glass houses and stones? 😉
More importantly, when Dave gets knighted his wife will be Lady Posh, an unfortunate simile.
They need someone younger than Sam. Fresh blood. Someone who really knows success in the premier League. Who knows what it's like to lift the PL championship trophy.
Someone who is currently between jobs.
Glass houses and stones? 😉
Oh, don’t worry… I’m well aware that we’re fiercely contesting the biggest basket case of a club award with spuds, same as we competed the shittest European final in the history of football with them.
Apparently they’re after Thomas Frank from Brentford, though god only knows why he’d do that. I’d think that the 2 clubs that finished 15th and 17th respectively are the last place any manager (or player) would want to go
International qualifiers immediately after a long league and cup season are a great idea. Knackered, unmotivated players. Just let them go to the beach!
Yeah, I just tuned in for the last 10 mins, what a complete waste of everyone's time.
Just back from a ride, soaked- and I can see Saturday night TV is still fun.
Watching the Andorra keeper lying on the ball for every simple catch when they're only a goal down is boiling my piss. Can't wait for next season's rule change to start.
What's the rule change?
what a complete waste of everyone's time.
You can apply that to pretty much all international football, but life really is too short to watch pointless Engerland qualifiers like this.
They’re always the same. They might as well just play an old VHS of one from the 80’s
Engerland are constantly placed* in a piss-easy groups so when they qualify into a tournament in another piss-easy group and then finally meet a middling able European team they get tonked.
*Money init.
What's the rule change
Currently the law is that the keeper has 6 seconds to release the ball, or it's an indirect free kick. However, it's felt that an indirect fk, possibly very close to the goal is a draconian penalty for a minor infringement, so it's rarely given. Secondly, an indirect fk takes an age to organise, probably a couple of yellow cards and resets for infringements and it's just such a pita that it's just ignored.
So now a gk will have eight seconds, not six, the ref will count down visibly from 5 i think and the sanction for delaying is that a corner is awarded. They trialled in a few leagues this year and even in games where the refs were told to be absolute letter of the law and no leniency called very few because the keepers got the ball back in play
Yea but 1 nil...and it's because the Andorran goalie sat on the ball?
Sorry, but I'm amusingly trolling my English mates!
More like with a bit of ambition they could have given us a bit of a squeaky bum.
Anyway, didn't come to rise to the justified baiting over another shite performance against a town sized country, came to mark the passing of Uriah Rennie, first black PL ref and a proper good bloke by all accounts.
when they qualify into a tournament in another piss-easy group and then finally meet a middling able European team they get tonked
Err, they were runners-up in the last two Euros.
Changing the subject a bit, but I think I am finally warming to Ronaldo – at nearly 40 years old, his passion for the game is as strong as ever. I watched most of the game last night, and I was cheering on Portugal by the end and it was great to see how much it meant to him.
The Belgium Wales game has been interesting.
Bit of a cracker this. Wales putting up good fight
Do given all these internationals - & the forthcoming expansion of the pointless World Club Cup, when does this thread end & the one for next season start?
When the match was 3-0 last night, I was readying to write a post saying 'Brussels sp-rout'. Wales spoiled my tiny bit of fun, but well done to them anyway. Nice to see Leeds' Joe Rodon have a great game.
I'm not a big football follower these days...
Good to read about the spirited fightback by Wales last night, before De Bruyne got the winner.
The format of the World Cup is nonsense IMO, trying to get a fairly equal number of countries qualifying for the finals from the continents, rather than the potential for the best teams to qualify.
Well how long do we give Tuchel then?
Can't see the point of putting Toney on with only 2 minutes of normal time to go. Kyle Walker is past his international use by date, and we can't rely on Kane who seems capable of scoring regularly.
Senegal on the other hand looked like a team that play regularly together, with some lovely passing moves and breaks which left the English team chasing shadows.
Senegal are a very good side, the England side was experimental.
But why o why Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker are still in the team I do not know. They should both be put out to pasture.
I hope the sad Pickford haterz noted what happens when you leave him on the bench? With 2 players in the winning team and JP1 absent from the losers it was a good night for Everton. And that’s not something you can say very often!
Still, the England Men's team has made a strong start in the cricket this season.
I hope the sad Pickford haterz noted what happens
I don't think there are any, are there? I believe most people agree that he is currently the best English goalkeeper available for selection.
^ Looks like me last night. ^

St James's Park and the environs are full of them. Further afield I saw Alan Pardew (who?) opining on the subject earlier this week.
Looks like Thomas Frank is following Mattheus Cunha in writing off his career 😂

It's like one of those temp jobs you did when a student - hope he doesn't unpack his holdall.
Has anyone else got little else to do in their lives but watch the club world cup? Seems channel 5 is showing some of it with something called DAZN showing all of it. £29.99 for one month.
I’d imagine most matches, full of disinterested players who don’t want to be there, playing in front of half-empty stadiums, will be a spectacle to rival the recent Engerland friendlies.
Pay to watch it? Not a chance!
Has anyone else got little else to do in their lives but watch the club world cup?
All the contractually-obliged excitement you can handle.

That's interesting - I presumed they were sports washing it & making it free to air -
Streaming platform Dazn has paid $1bn (£787m) to secure exclusive global rights to the tournament and will show all 63 matches free to view on its platforms.
from - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c62vm2lrpgpo
FIFA have removed all the anti-racism advertising/campaign from the CWC to appease the orange shitgibon and his fascist regime.
Also, after DAZN gave FIFA 1 billion for the broadcast rights, a couple of days later they then received a 1 billion, totally unrelated investment, from the Saudi PIF.
There also seems to be a new horse in the most corrupt sporting body race now, FIFA and the Olympics have been joined by the FIA (motorsports) who are making a surge down the home straight.
I’m sure the TV audience will be as huge as the ‘crowds’ at the two-thirds empty grounds, or for a Saudi pro league game, as the world collectively yawns.
Perhaps they could do some live beheadings as part of the half time entertainment, to try and get the viewing figures up?
A good article in today’s Guardian on that pointless tournament that nobody actually cares about
idk what the feast of football being served up by FIFA is like tonight, but the UEFA U21 England v Spain is a cracker
If anyone is bored of Glastonbury, Under 21s Euros final is great so far.
Spoiler alert- they don't like it up 'em!
I was already concerned we might pay for not converting some of the chances we made. But stay ahead for 10-15 mins in the second half and I think the pace of some of our subs will cause problems as Germany push for another

If our under 21s get used to losing to Germany on penalties they will transition seamlessly to the senior squad.
Still too hot to ride my bike so watching PSG v Barcelona veterans.
I know it’s a glorified pre-season friendly money making exercise, but that’s a bit of a shock. Especially since it appears that teams are starting to take it seriously.
I'd rather City had the chance to actually rest players before the start of the season next month, and reintroduce the likes of Rodri with something a little less taxing than full tournament football. We were respectable overall, banked a bit of cash, and clearly Al Hilal rightly saw it as more important than we did. Hope they give one of the other big names a going-over.
Especially since it appears that teams are starting to take it seriously
That probably depends on whether you’ve got bigger fish to fry or not. For the Saudi retirement home sides or the Minnesota Shitkickers, this is their Champions League.
I’m sure the Citeh players will view some time off before next season as far more important, despite their half-arsed protestations to the contrary.
S’all relative innit?

Mebbes aye...
Bloody hell! How absolutely tragic!
https://news.sky.com/story/liverpool-star-diogo-jota-28-killed-in-car-crash-report-13391751
Absolutely tragic indeed – three young children, and he got married 10 days ago. Sounds like a horrific crash, too:
"The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking.
"The car caught on fire and the two occupants were killed."
Liverpool fan here. Absolutely shocked. Devastating news; 28 years old and 3 kids left behind. And for his whole family; 2 sons lost so young.
Jota was such an important player, scored so many vital goals to help LFC win. I'll never forget his last minute winner against Spurs, after (ex-Evertonian) Richarliason scored an equaliser with Liverpool having been 3-0 up. He's been such a key figure in Liverpool's recent success, especially this year's title win. And undoubtedly an Anfield hero. RIP Diogo and André. 😪
Just really shit news. 😞
Gutted. Awful news and the circumstances regarding his recent marriage and kids exacerbate it even more for me.
I’ve only just heard about this, I have been out all day on the bike.
Absolutely tragic news, I am genuinely numb with shock.
One of the best players I’ve seen in old gold and the memories of his goals for Nuno’s team will live long in the memory of all Wolves fans.
RIP Diogo.
Anyone else watching the women’s Euro’s?
It’s a novelty watching an Engerland side playing entertaining attacking football.
They’re absolutely battering Holland! 4-0 up at the moment and it should be more.
Yep, following here. That was a great game! Top performances all round (except for, er, the Dutch)

You didn't watch the France game, obviously
Ha. That was pretty poor. Looks like Lauren James just doesn't work in a central role like that, at least in that 433.
Be interesting to see where it goes from here tho, whether that was just a slow start from us. Spain look really, really good, can't see anyone beating them at the moment. Unless they can really take the game to them, as they might be a bit vulnerable at the back?
It was a lot better than the France game! They played really well tonight, much much better! Hope is restored!
Watching a couple of chancer teams in New York, very good game in a gorgeous stadium. Wonder what the US of A fans think of top level soccerball.
Wales working hard against France.
PSG are demolishing Real! They are looking so good!
You didn't watch the France game, obviously
I didn’t watch it but heard the post-match analysis that they were really poor. So I was pretty surprised watching such a completely dominant performance last night.
So they have screwed palace then. There is a real anti English flavour to uefa, largely driven by Madrid and the spanish league IMO.
