In other news, there is going to be an end of term barby for the players after all. That’s a relief.
With Peps comments this week, there are clearly players he wants out and he is pressuring the club to make sure it happens. That has been united's biggest failure over the past decade, getting rid of the players that are either disrupting the dressing room or just not good enough/injury prone.
Expecting deals to be done that are beyond the value of the players just keeps them hanging around and damages the teams performance, which costs more in the long run, sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on, or the decline will just continue.
The problem is that United massively overpay for players, then stick them on long contracts on frankly insane wages, which no other club could match even if they wanted to, which they don’t.
So we end up in the mad situation where Sancho, Antony and Rashford (combined transfer fees paid - £150 million) are out on loan and we’re still paying some of their enormous wages.
Nobody is going to pay the crazy transfer fees United are asking or match the bonkers wages their agents are demanding.
So I fear we’ll start next season with largely the same squad of donkeys, minus Bruno, who’s the only player any other club would be interested in. We’ll probably also pull our usual stunt of being linked with loads of top players, then sign another Hojland for 90 million on the last day of the window. It wouldn’t surprise me if we end up paying City 100 million for Grealish.
I can also see a repeat of the Ten Hag debacle where we start the season with Amorim as manager but sack him before Christmas. We could well be in a proper relegation scrap by that point
Apparently got £100m to spend, with over half of that apparently going on Cunha, who will be a good signing I think. However, as you say, shipping players out will be hard, and they’ll have to accept a financial hit to get rid of some of the big earners. With limited signings likely, and Amorim’s refusal to adapt his system, I cannot see them getting anywhere near the Champions League places next season, although perhaps the lack of European games will help Amorim get his methods across.

They are relying on their big 6 status to attract players, at least with no European football next season they can focus on the league.
Could a club of their status go down? Leeds, went from a Champions League semi & 4th in the league, to 5th, 15th & then 19th in 2004. 3 yrs later they finished at the bottom of the Championship & spent 3 years in League 1.
This summer & next season is crucial for Utd, I am not sure they have the right people at the top of the club to stop something similar happening.

I hope they are, because city didn't really play that bad at Wembley, it could be said that city weren't at the level they have been at in previous seasons, but the story of the game was how well palace performed, and some great saves by Henderson. Where as in last nights game nobody really deserved to be called a winner, it was a turgid embarrassment for English football, and frankly a disgrace that the winner gets to play in the champions league, palace would be a much more deserving CL team.
I also hope the palace team don't get gutted in the transfer market over the summer.
I was trying to think how they could stop CL contender teams gutting smaller teams whenever they have a good season, the only thing I can think of is if the fans vote for their top players in season, only 1 of the top 3 can be allowed to be sold.
Or just equalise the TV revenue despite league position, after all a competitive league is what all fans want, so equalising the revenue should mean that teams are not forced to sell.
I don’t think teams are forced to sell, they have little choice when a player’s head is turned, and wants to play for one of the bigger clubs. There’s so much depth and money now in the EPL - look at some of the players that play for mid table clubs. Evanilson, Mbeoumo, Wharton, Eze, Baleba off the top of my head. Teams have broken into the top end - Forest, Villa etc, replacing the likes of Spurs and United.

Not one of those players were stars beforehand though, they were given a chance by those clubs. You make it sound like these players were playing for big clubs in Europe before they were plucked by those mid table EPL clubs when Wharton and Eze were playing in the championship, Baleba was a bit part player for Lille and I think Brentford signed Mbeumo from a French academy (I’ve no idea where Evanilson is from)

I have a feeling that, once play offs were guaranteed, sunderland eased up for the last few matches. Based off that match yesterday, I don't think they'll be in the PL for long.
The play offs have obviously worked in the sense that there are games that are live to the end of the season where way more teams are still in it, rather than marking time. And of course the event and the paydays are fabulous fun (even though eventually someone ends up hating it)
But it does at times feel like you've run a marathon only for the first 4 finishers to then be told that the winner's going to be decided by a 60 yard dash. I'm still bitter that Reading would have made PL in the year when the PL numbers were reduced, so we even came second that year and still didn't go up!!
So that said - why not at the other end of the table which can be left dead from April onwards. PL for example, if that was 2 down and next 4 playing to survive, then Wolves would still be playing for survival today, and Leicester would have a chance. I know the answer is the clubs want their secure finances, etc. but that why it isn't used rather than the benefits for what is supposed to be an entertainment business.

Well. That’s that then (aside from the Conference League). As a Chelsea fan, I’m pretty pleased with the way things turned out. Could have been a lot worse & we did well to finish with 5 wins out of 6 (especially given our attack didn’t really manage to score).

Ipswich Town fan. It went how I expected, sadly. If we had held onto half the leads we threw away then we would have been comfortably safe, which is a little disappointing.
Now we need to try and hang on to some of our better players for next season.
Obviously not quite up to our recent standards, but pretty good in a historical context. If you'd told me we'd finish third and only three points adrift of second a couple of months ago, I'd have taken it.
I doubt any Spurs fan is feeling entirely comfortable, but nothing should stop you using a European trophy for bragging rights after years of nothing.

Moaning to the FA is a lack of class, you needed a draw at one of the worst teams teams in the league and you choked, simple as.
As to next season - CL which is great for keeping the ones we want to keep, strengthening where we need to, boosting finances, etc. The last couple of weeks, albeit against some good sides has exposed us a bit, the intensity in midfield needs all 3 of Joe, Bruno and (POTY/Mancrush) Sandro and if one's missing then we suffer - and with another 8 high quality games to play in CL we need to boost that area. I've said before I'm still not quite sure on Isak, despite what pundits and numbers say, and looks like Wilson is on way out and Osula is raw - another 1 or 2 in that area (Mbeumo, Rogers, yes please!!) would be good. But In Eddie and Jase we trust!!

It started out badly (2 wins from 19, sacked the manager, the chairman tendered his resignation but it was refused)
It tailed off a bit in the middle (new manager just upped and left after four months)
And the less said about the end, the better (finished bottom of the table, goal difference of -38, back down to League 2 for the first time in a decade)
But apart from that, excellent!
Couldn't have been much better for Leeds tbh and thankfully the gamble to not sign anyone in January worked out so we should have a few quid to spend. Also good not to have obligations to sign any loan players this time which I think will catch up with Burnley and Sunderland.

I'm still genuinely stunned by what happened yesterday - the whole of Liverpool was such a happy place on Sunday & everywhere had a proper feel good factor about it.
