I’m really pleased for Tottenham. They get the shit ripped out them so much.

Ferguson there to see it. He must be hating this season for all sorts of reasons.

I suppose the world club thing might come there, but Manchester being a trophy free zone (for now) is always nice.

Well that was as awful as expected. As predicted, decided by an own goal and terrible goalkeeping.  Other than the goal, neither keeper had owt to do.

We’ve been absolutely shite all year, so that was a fitting end to the season. Woeful! I never thought I’d see a United squad this shambolic

God only knows what happens with this squad of utter donkeys over the summer, but I’ve a horrible feeling they are all still going to there at the start of next season

So much for Sir Jim’s new era. FFS!

EUFA has just begun an emergency meeting to consider the proposal that neither team is allowed to win.

I said earlier on a What’s App group…

They should put this game down as stale mate and pretend it never happened.

I think it’s good for football generally though that there’s a week to go in the EPL and the champions league (and Europa League)  places are still all to play for, Newcastle have won the league cup, Palace have won the FA cup and two of the so-called ‘Big Six’ finished 16th and 17th, yet were both in the Europa League final.

A mad season! Long may it continue!

decided by an own goal and terrible goalkeeping

tbf, Spurs made two special saves - the scissor-kick by the defender then the goalie at the end.

And nothing Onana could do about the goal surely? He did well to get a hand on it.

Well I was completely wrong about this match.

I also had a fiver on a Man Utd win with Amad scoring.

United have apparently put every single player up for sale. I hope Sir Jim doesn’t get trampled in the stampede of Europes top clubs to sign them all.

In other news, there is going to be an end of term barby for the players after all. That’s a relief.

With Peps comments this week, there are clearly players he wants out and he is pressuring the club to make sure it happens. That has been united's biggest failure over the past decade, getting rid of the players that are either disrupting the dressing room or just not good enough/injury prone.

Expecting deals to be done that are beyond the value of the players just keeps them hanging around and damages the teams performance, which costs more in the long run, sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on, or the decline will just continue.

The problem is that United massively overpay for players, then stick them on long contracts on frankly insane wages, which no other club could match even if they wanted to, which they don’t.

So we end up in the mad situation where Sancho, Antony and Rashford (combined transfer fees paid - £150 million) are out on loan and we’re still paying some of their enormous wages.

Nobody is going to pay the crazy transfer fees United are asking or match the bonkers wages their agents are demanding.

So I fear we’ll start next season with largely the same squad of donkeys, minus Bruno, who’s the only player any other club would be interested in. We’ll probably also pull our usual stunt of being linked with loads of top players, then sign another Hojland for 90 million on the last day of the window. It wouldn’t surprise me if we end up paying City 100 million for Grealish.

I can also see a repeat of the Ten Hag debacle where we start the season with Amorim as manager but sack him before Christmas. We could well be in a proper relegation scrap by that point

Apparently got £100m to spend, with over half of that apparently going on Cunha, who will be a good signing I think. However, as you say, shipping players out will be hard, and they’ll have to accept a financial hit to get rid of some of the big earners. With limited signings likely, and Amorim’s refusal to adapt his system, I cannot see them getting anywhere near the Champions League places next season, although perhaps the lack of European games will help Amorim get his methods across.

If I was Cunha - would I want to go to Utd?

They are relying on their big 6 status to attract players, at least with no European football next season they can focus on the league.

Could a club of their status go down? Leeds, went from a Champions League semi & 4th in the league, to 5th, 15th & then 19th in 2004. 3 yrs later they finished at the bottom of the Championship & spent 3 years in League 1.

This summer & next season is crucial for Utd, I am not sure they have the right people at the top of the club to stop something similar happening.

Well his agent will be able to negotiate him a nice 7 year contract on £250 grand a week. Whether thats worth sacrificing his career for is his decision

I am not sure they have the right people at the top of the club to stop something similar happening.

I’d absolutely agree with that.

Looking at what’s happened since he bought into United, Sir Jim has achieved what none of us believed possible…. he seems even worse at running a football club than the Glazers. And god only knows what Dave Brailsford is there for?

Marginal gains. Hojland has a new pillow and handwashing regime and will now score 0.005% more goals per season.

I thought Brailsford was there for the same reason as the players, the pay packet.

He doesn't even seem able to organise the supply of jiffy bags any more.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing Cunha and Bruno throwing their arms up each time the other shoots from 25yrds instead of passing it to them.

He's a very good player but like a lot of signings that Man U have made, I do wonder if he fails the "no d**kheads" test. He's already had a couple of absolute headloss moments this season and I was at Molineux the other week and after he gave away the penalty he spent the rest of the time just shooting as soon as he got the ball and was hooked after about 50 mins because of it.

Given his history of helping get a whole country out of Europe, it's nice to see he can reproduce that at a slightly smaller scale. Consistency is the key. All he needs now is Team Ineos to get banned from the grand tours and he's got the full set.

A London problem but the ITV local news is right boiling my piss with blanket coverage of the Europa Cup parade. 17 years, it's hardly any time! Palace should be on a 6 week bender by the same measure! It's a day that will be remembered for generations to come, the presenter has just said!

Sweet Jesus; I mean, really I'm glad it wasn't Man Utd and of course watching Arsenal's fans get all snippy is great too, but FFS.

I hope they are, because city didn't really play that bad at Wembley, it could be said that city weren't at the level they have been at in previous seasons, but the story of the game was how well palace performed, and some great saves by Henderson. Where as in last nights game nobody really deserved to be called a winner, it was a turgid embarrassment for English football, and frankly a disgrace that the winner gets to play in the champions league, palace would be a much more deserving CL team.

I also hope the palace team don't get gutted in the transfer market over the summer.

I was trying to think how they could stop CL contender teams gutting smaller teams whenever they have a good season, the only thing I can think of is if the fans vote for their top players in season, only 1 of the top 3 can be allowed to be sold.

Or just equalise the TV revenue despite league position, after all a competitive league is what all fans want, so equalising the revenue should mean that teams are not forced to sell.

I don’t think teams are forced to sell, they have little choice when a player’s head is turned, and wants to play for one of the bigger clubs. There’s so much depth and money now in the EPL - look at some of the players that play for mid table clubs. Evanilson, Mbeoumo, Wharton, Eze, Baleba off the top of my head. Teams have broken into the top end - Forest, Villa etc, replacing the likes of Spurs and United.

Not one of those players were stars beforehand though, they were given a chance by those clubs. You make it sound like these players were playing for big clubs in Europe before they were plucked by those mid table EPL clubs when Wharton and Eze were playing in the championship, Baleba was a bit part player for Lille and I think Brentford signed Mbeumo from a French academy (I’ve no idea where Evanilson is from)

Indeed. But it was always going to be. 16th v 17th, two teams who have been absolutely bloody awful all season.

At the end of the day though, all they’ve done is earn the right to get trounced by AZ Alkmaar or someone to go out in the first round of the CL next season. Can you imagine if either of those absolutely dismal squads came up against Inter or Barcelona? It could be a cricket score?

Really pleased for McTominay - he always looked a bit compromised wherever he was played at United. With Antony rattling them in for Betis it’s hard not to agree with Binners that the club is the problem.

And Aberdeen winning the Scottish Cup, in a game that wasnt a great deal better than Wednesdays Europa final. But, to make it better, I had my only bet of the season, on Aberdeen at 11/2, at a massive £3 stake, so it isnt going to stop me working!

I have a feeling that, once play offs were guaranteed, sunderland eased up for the last few matches. Based off that match yesterday, I don't think they'll be in the PL for long.

The play offs have obviously worked in the sense that there are games that are live to the end of the season where way more teams are still in it, rather than marking time. And of course the event and the paydays are fabulous fun (even though eventually someone ends up hating it)

But it does at times feel like you've run a marathon only for the first 4 finishers to then be told that the winner's going to be decided by a 60 yard dash. I'm still bitter that Reading would have made PL in the year when the PL numbers were reduced, so we even came second that year and still didn't go up!!

So that said - why not at the other end of the table which can be left dead from April onwards. PL for example, if that was 2 down and next 4 playing to survive, then Wolves would still be playing for survival today, and Leicester would have a chance. I know the answer is the clubs want their secure finances, etc. but that why it isn't used rather than the benefits for what is supposed to be an entertainment business.

Top marks to Arsenal women yesterday on winning the Champions League!

Kind of mad/impressive that it drew an attendance of 38,000 - but that both teams regularly play to bigger crowds than that at home! The women's NLD had 56,000 fans this season...

It’s going to be a very interesting final day of the season today. It’s so tight for those European spots. So much for the ‘Big Six’

No doubt Villa have got a guaranteed 3 points by comprehensively trouncing us to round off our utterly dismal season. I’m sure the mood will be absolutely fabulous at OT, with Sir Jim announcing another couple of hundred staff redundancies on Friday.

I’m just watching Charlton v Leyton Orient. Matches don’t get much more open than this!
Edit: what a free kick that was!!!

Well. That’s that then (aside from the Conference League). As a Chelsea fan, I’m pretty pleased with the way things turned out. Could have been a lot worse & we did well to finish with 5 wins out of 6 (especially given our attack didn’t really manage to score).
How is everyone else feeling about their season? I’m intrigued to see how many Spurs supporters think they have had an ‘Outstanding’ one.

Ipswich Town fan. It went how I expected,  sadly. If we had held onto half the leads we threw away then we would have been comfortably safe, which is a little disappointing.

Now we need to try and hang on to some of our better players for next season.

Obviously not quite up to our recent standards, but pretty good in a historical context. If you'd told me we'd finish third and only three points adrift of second a couple of months ago, I'd have taken it.

I doubt any Spurs fan is feeling entirely comfortable, but nothing should stop you using a European trophy for bragging rights after years of nothing.

Disappointed by the final day result, but I suspected the chief Mackem tormentor would want some say in things, on a good weekend for Mackems in general. Fortunately i foresaw that and so had a decent bet on so the £70 he made me compensates a bit. CL and a Cup - I'd have bitten your hand of if you'd offered that in August last year, and your whole arm off when we were 12th in December.

Even better; ManU finally remembered the aim of the game. Helped undoubtedly by a rush of blood to the head of one of the best goalkeepers in the world, they salvaged CL for us anyway.

Disappointed by Villa/Emery who's been fab this season - his team missed chances, Martinez massive cock up compounding a defender cock up, Utd hit the post 3 times as well - and it's on the ref for being inexperienced. **** off. Also disappointed at the pundits, who last week were all over 'just flag when it's offside otherwise players get injured' are now all over 'should have let it run and then VAR sort it out'.  Yes, it was an error but one can only assume he blew because he saw it as a clear foul. Moaning to the FA is a lack of class, you needed a draw at one of the worst teams teams in the league and you choked, simple as.

As to next season - CL which is great for keeping the ones we want to keep, strengthening where we need to, boosting finances, etc. The last couple of weeks, albeit against some good sides has exposed us a bit, the intensity in midfield needs all 3 of Joe, Bruno and (POTY/Mancrush) Sandro and if one's missing then we suffer - and with another 8 high quality games to play in CL we need to boost that area. I've said before I'm still not quite sure on Isak, despite what pundits and numbers say, and looks like Wilson is on way out and Osula is raw - another 1 or 2 in that area (Mbeumo, Rogers, yes please!!) would be good. But In Eddie and Jase we trust!!

Yes Villa, the referee made a mistake but you played worse than even Newcastle did.

Only got themselves to blame.

Besides, Villa conceded 2 anyway.  With an xG of 0.4 v 2.86.

I was very disappointed with Newcastle's performance but it's nice that Man Utd did us a favour for a change.

How is everyone else feeling about their season?

Well, to quote a famous philosopher...

It started out badly (2 wins from 19, sacked the manager, the chairman tendered his resignation but it was refused)

It tailed off a bit in the middle (new manager just upped and left after four months)

And the less said about the end, the better (finished bottom of the table, goal difference of -38, back down to League 2 for the first time in a decade)

But apart from that, excellent!

Couldn't have been much better for Leeds tbh and thankfully the gamble to not sign anyone in January worked out so we should have a few quid to spend. Also good not to have obligations to sign any loan players this time which I think will catch up with Burnley and Sunderland.

There was something similar in Spain the other week, I think it was a middle aged women who got "panicked" by the raucous crowd and pressed the wrong pedal. While it doesn't help the injured much, it is a preferable scenario to something deliberate or even tribal.

I will be avoiding the videos, I have a very low tolerance to seeing people being hurt.

I'm still genuinely stunned by what happened yesterday - the whole of Liverpool was such a happy place on Sunday & everywhere had a proper feel good factor about it.

Whether the incident was deliberate or accidental, it'll have a lasting impact on that fanbase.

Maybe the car incident needs moving to its own thread rather than spoiling this one at the end of the season?

Anyway - Mary Earps retiring from international duty. Avoiding not being selected in the Euros maybe? Made a huge contribution to the sport and the Euros win.

Anyway - Mary Earps retiring from international duty. Avoiding not being selected in the Euros maybe? Made a huge contribution to the sport and the Euros win.

I could be wrong, but I can't think of anyone else this well known who has retired from international football this close to a tournament BEFORE the squad is announced.

Didn't Scholsey do it? Has Ben White officially ‘retired’ from international duty? He told Southgate to eff off just before the last Euros

Looks like Utd have signed another complete walker...

He’ll fit right in then

I look forward to seeing a good Monday morning rant from binners in about October. It strikes me that a mercurial freewheeling South American vibes man is exactly what Amorim needs 😅

He’s a player that plays on his instinct, he doesn’t like to spend hours looking through opposition and tactical bits,” Burchnall says. “He likes to feel the game and more play on instincts than anything, which obviously when a lot of coaches are working on deep tactical work, he doesn’t always slot into that because those sorts of free spirits are not seen as much. But if you can get him into the positions where he likes to be and then allow him that freedom, I think you get a lot out of Matheus."

Based on the final I wouldn’t rate the Conference League below the Europa.

Well it looks like Bruno (somewhat predictably) is off, and who can blame him? I’m amazed we kept hold of him this long. He’s been carrying that bunch of no-marks for years. As for the rest of this squad, I’m sure they’ll all still be stinking up Old Trafford, picking up their insanely over-inflated salaries next season

I’m sure that the transfer fee for we get Bruno will be spent as wisely as it has been with all our other recent purchases of world-class players

At least Cunha is familiar with a relegation scrap, which is handy as that’s exactly how he’ll be spending next season, with our only decent player off to Saudi

Meanwhile, at the other end of the M62, Liverpool show once again how you actually run a football club and get £9 million out of Real to release a player a couple of weeks early who was going on a free anyway.

youd like to think the clowns at United might take note. Unlikely…

Man Utd said to be 'relaxed at the situation'. Why, aside from money, would anyone want to join the club, let alone actually give their all during matches, if this is the insulting way they respond to one of their better and more committed players thinking about leaving?

They will just be left with the mercenary dregs trotting around.
