As a Forest fan I was really sad to see Cooper go, he'd given us so much, in such a professional manner. I think we've got lucky with Nuno, Lopetigu reportedly turned us down, Nuno has come in and pretty quietly just gone about his business. We're missing our main center forward and have been for months it has to be said.

He exploited the area behind the Newcastle full backs repeatedly to carve out 3 goals on boxing day, last night he targeted the absolutely gaping hole at the front center of the 18 yard box, both goal set ups where in that area as it's just bereft if any defensive cover - his experience and tactical nouse, with some added confidence and calmness throughout is really pushing us on, Toney will be looking to bounce back at Brentford at the next game in Jan but if we can win that cup final of a game we'll be securing that mid table mediocrity we've been striving for.

Meant a lot to Elanga last night, he's been a great signing for penny's along with HO.

Might be wrong but Nuno’s style is pretty defensive and counter attack based? So quite hard to play against but unlikely to secure much beyond mid table - which will test the owner’s patience.

Binners -United obviously need a better structure in place, which ineos will surely put in place. I think they’ll need another change in manager though so you’re probably still years off challenging consistently for the league. I think Rangnick said they were six years behind City, probably accurate.

It is counter attacking, from what I've heard from Wolves fans the first half is a battle of attrition with the second half making the result which was pretty much how last night played out.

At the start of the season it was rumoured the owner had his eye on tenth, I think most fans thought that was very ambitious and would have happily settled for mid to low bottom half, Nuno is making ground quickly though and he got Wolves into Europe which is the aim so I'm hoping he'll get to the end of next season at least, an upwards, everything is passive and an upwards tradgectory opens the door to 'better' managers, again they knocked on Tuchels door last year and got a firm no, not getting ahead of myself but of we can tidy up a bit more if the back room stuff the ambition is there

Can Forest expect anything more than mid table?

There seems to be a lot of borderline decisions ignored on MoTD.

The Fergie time for Man U not even mentioned.

I don't think anyone's thinking about us troubling beyond 10th but to the folks who've had season tickets from the long distant good memories and throughout all the bad times results like last night mean a huge amount in that ground, seeing some passion, and an unexpected result is enough for most, a good league position is a bonus.

It’s just like old times! Arsenal top at christmas, then proceeding to ‘do an Arsenal’. If normal service is resumed then they’ll be in their 5th place comfort zone by the end beginning of January

Just waiting for the Arteta interview 🤣

Spurs just a point behind them now, see they picked up another injury to a key player as well, they must have broken a few mirrors in that dressing room this year with their luck!

The first penalty dive was bad but you could argue against VAR intervening, but that second one was unreal, VAR pretty much pointless these days.

Liverpool have deserved this win but what the ****ing **** is VAR actually for if not to stop blatant diving like these Liverpool penalties. That second one in particular is shameful.

Liverpool scored four so feels odd to call them profligate but by god they are! Should’ve cruised that, I’m not sure Nunez is ever going to get any better. Strong bench though, they’ve put together a pretty good squad.

34 shots and an xG of 7.2 I read...... a month without Salah will be testing, he does far more than just score goals

As a neutral who dislikes both Newcastle and Liverpool in equal amounts, it was a great game to watch. VAR controversy, LOADS of chances, Nunez hilariously poor (he should have had a double hat trick), arguably Joelinton and that Bruno fella the Newcastle fans mindlessly just chant the name of over and over should have been sent off, Dubravka making a million saves from shots straight at him, few goals, awful ref and Klopp losing his shit as usual (didn't see the post match interview but assume it was heavily laden with sarcasm, thinly veiled pops at the ref maybe some spittle hitting the camera from his inane ranting?)...

I was going to suggest Forest fans are getting a little ahead of themselves by talk of 10th but there is so much utter crap in the Prem this year with teams coming up being woeful and established Prem teams sliding backwards at alarming rates that its probably achievable.

We're going through the mid-season 'nobody wants to win it' phase, it'll tighten up in a month or two, when the teams at the bottom start winning more and Man City pull away.

Fa cup next.  A wet and cold January weekend full of 3rd round drama awaits us I reckon.  No idea who spurs will field, with injuries,  asain cup and African cup the team is some what depleted.

Probably Cooper... or whoever was sacked before him...

Once you're a manager it's only a matter of which club you go to next month .... but with a big payout 😀

Have we done Sunderland decorating a bar at the ground with Newcastle colours/slogans?

How the heck did anyone at the club think that was a good idea?

Because the idiots who now run football don't understand the fanatical tribalism and instead want it to be an entertainment spectacle where everyone behaves nicely, rather than what it really is.

Newcastle Sunderland has a bit of spite, with the ref allowing the game to flow (so far); entertainment for the neutral.

Spurs seemed to struggle to score without Son, but got past Burnley lay night.  Progressing to the 4th round is great but struggling to score its worrying given Son is off at the Asian Cup for 5 weeks probably and we have another cb with a hamstring injury now!  What is going on?  3 CBs and one holding mid all out with hamstring injuries!

3 CBs and one holding mid all out with hamstring injuries!

Look at the injury list on any premier league side and it’ll be pretty similar. We’ve got 37 year old Jonny Evans (who was signed as last resort cover and maybe the odd league cup game) starting every single game because pretty much every other defender is out injured, most long-term.

It’s the pace and demands of the modern game, with the absolutely relentless scheduling of matches

That isn't the whole list,  it's less than half,  we did have 11 first team out,  currently I think it's 9 or 10.  That wasn't my point though,  I was asking why all the hamstrings? 4 hamstrings with 3 for cbs seems too many to be coincidence.   I'd read that ange's style of play contributes and first season somewhere he tends to see a lot of injuries, I'm wondering if something particular is contributing to all these hamstring injuries?

I think coincidence - remember a while ago all the rage seemed to be breaking metatarsals. Also coincidence - both Liverpool’s left backs currently out having shoulder area injuries.

Having watched Ange at Celtic it’s nothing really about distance covered or speed, just the 21st century footballers injury, they’re like thoroughbreds now, and games increasing yearly.

I’ve mentioned it on the footy threads before but I have a running joke with my City supporting mate where I bet on 5-0 whenever they play lower league teams or relegation zone teams. I then text him just after half time and ask him if he can get them to stop at five

It’s paid out so many times. It paid out again today but it was only 9/1, which reflects how often they do it

Anyway… tomorrow night to look forward to, married to an ABU from Wigan. No prizes for guessing who she’s bet on. She rarely gets things wrong. It’s going to be a long 90 minutes

Bamford's goal was rather special. I'll admit I've watched it about 20 times! Leeds avoiding a 3rd round slip up to a lower league side is a very un-Leeds thing to do...

Not much out there in January which doesn’t involve a massive fee, although I expect United will sign a 35 year old striker well past his best.

Problem for Arteta is where does he play Jesus if they sign for example Toney, given Saka is guaranteed to play wide right?

Havertz's problem seems to be that he plays believing that that he has to look graceful on the ball and that he has read all that flowery "he passed the ball into the net" stuff, where a good old first time thump might well have better results.  In fact for most of this season the Arsenal frontline appear infected by a recurrence of Wenger-itis which demands we walk the ball into the net or only score good looking goals.

Havertz was infuriating yesterday. A total waste of money and offers nothing to the team. That was the 4th game I've watched all season and we've lost all four. Exactly the reason I'm a terrible fan and hardly ever watch us live. We're now exactly where we belong in the league and will finish 4th at best, but I think 5th is more likely. We have a good chance against Porto in the CL but that's as far as we will go. Another wonderful trophyless season beckons.

I think Arsenal did a little too well last season so expectations are high, a bit like Newcastle. Man City are just so dominant that it takes an awful lot to challenge them. Just look at Liverpool, they've been pushing City close for years but still only have one Premier League trophy to show for it. I think Arsenal are doing well and are on the right track but it will still take another season or so for Arteta to get them to the next level to challenge City

Saka clearly needs to be rested, Jesus would allow that as well as giving cover for an out and out striker like Toney. I think Jesus is actually more effective on the right than he is as a striker, and he can also play on the left so I think he would get plenty of minutes, he just wouldn't be named on the team sheet when Arteta wanted to put out his strongest team.

Toney doesn't look likely in this transfer window, but I do think the gooners should put an offer in that makes Brentford think about it, they really need a striker desperately and Toney would score lots more with a team of that quality.

Too young to see him play but obviously a legend, in the true sense of the word. RIP.

Re Arsenal form, pre City hoovering up 90 plus points each season I think has distorted things - used to be accepted that even the top teams would have a sticky run, most seasons the league was won with five or six losses. Couple of losses now and toys are out the pram.

There are only three people who have won the WC as player and coach.

Mario Zagallo (BRA) who died on Friday

Franz Beckenbauer (GER) who died today

Didier Deschamps (FRA) who is currently shitting himself.
