Didn’t catch the earlier two games today, but AUSFRA is a refreshing change from that turgid shite last night.

Why, yes, yes they are. It’s like how they get an entry into Eurovision. 😂

This is a great match!

Austria much better than I expected. Surely another french goal is in the post though

Mbappe is human after all!

Fantastic player but not at Messi or Ronaldo’s level, at their peak, for me. Not as good a finisher. Maybe he’ll get there at Madrid.

The ref was poor.

Interestingly Ralf Rangnick looks like he knows his stuff when given adequate players 🙃

In fairness, Ronaldo wasn't at Mbappe's level at Mbappe's age.

I'm not so sure as he's 25 now.  Ronaldo signed for Real aged 24 after several stellar seasons for ManYoo in all competitions. PSG might dominate Ligue 1 but that is not really a competitive league and the overall standard is still lower than late 2000s Prem. Mbappe has been great for PSG domestically but they've often struggled in Europe and he can be anonymous in games (same accusation for Haaland)

Mbappe has been consistently surrounded by fantastic players in the France team whereas Ronaldo has had some mixed quality teammates in  a Portugal shirt .. e.g. Bruno Alves?

Mbappe is probably a better team player though

You're all talking about the wrong Ronaldo! Mbappe has had a similar trajectory in some ways and he's overdue a move to a top league. Ronaldo (Luís Nazário de Lima) proved himself in Spain and Italy when they were the best leagues in the world. He was twice Ballon d'Or winner and 3 times FIFA world player of the year plus 2 World Cups - and that was with best part of 3 years of being injured at his peak age. Mbappe has some way to go yet.

Ronaldo, or R9 as the kids call him, was on a completely different level to Mbappe and by 25 was without doubt the best player of his generation. Shame the injuries destroyed him.

R9 was a little prone to weight gain and fitness loss especially when injured but he was a far deadlier striker than Mbappe is at the moment. He didn't just rely on blistering speed but had a box of tricks as well and incredible ball control.

Danny Murphy, who somehow manages to be an even worse commentator than Steve McManomanomanomanoman (quite some achievement) seems to be watching a different match from me

Is 9 the Portuguese one?

Like the stabbed the French players are taking with regards to the French elections.

Would be interesting to see what the England players have to say with regards to the UK elections......

At least with Steve the Muppet he's sometimes so high pitched humans can't hear him.

Binners - one Murphy gem tonight was that only players feet should count for offside. Really don’t get what the pundits add during the game, just have a commentator and do the analysis at half time.

only players feet should count for offside.

I actually thought that one had a certain logic to it. I always think it's a bit harsh when a player is judged offside because his head was a bit further forward.

But generally he was full of shite.

Was rooting for the Czechs there, as I used to live in Prague, but a draw would have flattered them a bit tbh

I’m behind the sofa every time the ball goes near Ralston.

Why does McTominay take the corners and free kicks?! He’s 6ft 4 and great in the air!

Assume you’re referring to a few minutes of England chat at half time?

For balance far too much ‘we’ from the commentators. Woe betide English commentators being so indulgent and straying from BBC impartiality!

Aye, is it not possible to spend 10 mins talking about the game being played? I've no problem with bias from the commentators, there was plenty of bias when England played.

Fairly sure that's the first time I've seen two former Shrewsbury Town players in the post match analysis.

Joe Hart is actually quite a decent pundit! A refreshing change from Shearer telling us that he's hit it really well and it's just been too good for the goalie and that's a great goal

Yep, good to get a goalies perspective, and he’s played in Scotland with a few of the squad. But he’s English!!! Should have been Craig Gordon. And Gabby Logan’s Welsh! Outrageous. Not everything’s a massive conspiracy folks.

Glad Ralston was solid second half, head could easily have gone down. Would have liked to have seen Christie and Shankland given 20 mins, not 5.

With Tierney out for the duration we could see Greg Taylor getting a game for Scotland.

If Taylor gets a game we're really in trouble as that would mean Robertson's out too. I thought Tierney was quiet last night, it looked to me like it was his hamstring that went and wonder if he was feeling it right throughout the game. He certainly wasn't getting up the pitch as much as normal. I wonder if Clarke will go for a back four now, he would then be able to get Christie back in the team or he could play two strikers.

Danny Murphy is beyond awful. In the Portugal game 5 minutes toward the end he's banging on about why managers bring players on with 5 minutes left as thats not enough time to change the course of a game. Player comes on in the 90th minute and scores the winner in the 92nd. And that Danny, is why you're being paid (somehow) to talk out of your backside whilst people who know what they're doing are managing the team.

Scotland... Grant Hanley is hilariously bad. Almost like he won a competition to play in a football match. And Mcginn - what a horrible player. Lacking anything like skill it seems his sole purpose on a football pitch is simply to make sly fouls on players. Has Che Adams touched the ball in either game yet?

On reflection Taylor is not likely to get a game Robertson has already shown that he can't play any other position in defence so it looks like our starting defence on Saturday will be what finished the game last night

Glass houses, throwing stones etc..

Hanley... don't you remember Geoff Thomas, Carlton Palmer, Francis Jeffers, David Nugent , Phil Jones etc???

McGinn - I'm not a huge fan of the simian-like central midfielder but he plays consistently well with Villa, where he's the captain,  so he's not that bad. Having said that he's got the biggest arse in football (Dalglish would be envious)

Hope they revert to a back 4 now Tierney is out. Ralston looks so exposed as wing back with 3 in the centre.

Re McGinn - ask Villa fans what they make of him! He’s a good player. Not sure Clarke is getting the best out of him in this formation.

I try not to hate on Southgate, because he has at least achieved team cohesion unlike many of his predecessors, but he is also tactically inept.

Seems pretty obvious what the problem with England is. These are players who are used to playing a modern high pressing, high speed and high energy game at the highest levels being forced to play an outdated tippy-tappy cautious game plan which they haven't a clue how to execute. They're probably bored out of their minds.

tough to say for a bloke with 60- odd goals but Kane is no longer the man we need. Worth a squad place and for some games but our game doesn't really suit him now.

Luckily for England the ref has been very kind.

Awful performance. Surely it can’t be a fitness issue? Definitely problems with the system, TAA wrong position. Foden works hard but ineffective. The England defence and midfield out themselves under massive amounts of pressure with the constant backward passing and no forward movement.
