I'm thinking that Mbappe could score a controversial match winning penalty against the Spanish ahead of his big move to Real Madrid. Wonder what reception he'd get on his debut?

Any predictions for the semis?

Two tedious 0-0 draws, extra time and penalties, leading to  possibly the worst final of anti-football in tournament history between France and England which will also be a tedious 0-0 draw, extra time and penalties

BBC website live reporting is quite funny. Let's hope they can keep it up.

First post

Hello and welcome to build-up for what could be a cracking European Championship semi-final.

We have the best team on paper, France, against the best team on grass, Spain.

Second post

The winners of this semi-final will face either England or the Netherlands in Sunday's final.

The Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink derby takes place tomorrow at 20:00 BST.

Never realised that the start of the Spanish national anthem is not unlike the theme to Blackadder.

Ok, so maybe not a tedious 0-0 then? 😀

France have actually scored from open play? Whatever next?

What a finish that was! How can you do that at 16?!

This is a cracking game!

Whatever next?

How about England playing a fluent, assertive, passing game tomorrow and leaving the Netherlands chasing shadows?

Semi final borefest, thank god for Southgate tomorrow, that's a guaranteed 0-0, instead of some boring goalfest ?

I don't think children should be allowed to play in adult games. They lack the strength and physical robustness to withstand the rigours of the men's game.

And the little bastards keep showing us up too.

Well football certainly is not pants, as the cranks on the other thread believe.

This is some game.

Love to see the cheating French bastards exit a tournament. They’ve been horrible to watch. Mbappé has been shit. They can **** off.

I don't think you need to worry there, fella

Thought France were decent in the second half, 4 or 5 good chances to score

Mbappe fluffed his lines last night - looked pretty ordinary when playing centrally and missed the one good chance he fashioned for himself. Interested to see where he’ll fit in at Real Madrid, given Vinicius plays wide left.

For once I really hope England win tonight because I really want to see them get destroyed by Spain. Southgate deserves nothing less after his depressingly negative and stubborn approach to this tournament. I'm still despairing for Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon.

On a sort of related note, I see Messi has led Argentina into the Copa America final, at 37. Is that bloke human?

I'm not sure why people are so worried. Ok so they are better going forward, better defending, better in the midfield, better with the ball, better without the ball, faster, more committed and more cohesive but apart from that what have they got over England?

Could it be just like 2004, when a team accused of being boring, negative, and creativity-stifling, went all the way against arguably better sides,  such as Prime Ronaldo Portugal in the final?

Probably not, but there is precedent for uninspiring teams in this competition.

Ronaldo in 2004 was a spotty show pony kid with a habit of throwing himself on the floor.

By 2008 he was at the height of his ManU days.

I'm hoping for a free flowing game with both teams trying to win the game in 90 minutes.

Now I've said that, it'll be a two hour snoozefest defensive game going to penalties .

Softest pen ever, and a booking I presume for studs up.

I thought it was 50:50. Dumfries had his studs up and didn't win the ball, but I didn't think the decision would be over turned.

England are having all kinds of fun and games down the right. Foden, Saka & Walker are taking the mick.

EDIT: also, is there something about Pickford’s arm length? He couldn’t reach the crossbar for the header against it…

anywhere else on the pitch that's a freekick and a booking, it's quite dangerous without being reckless, could easily break bones, etc.

But I agree, very rarely given in the area and on that basis quite lucky. The attitude seems to be 'well, you got your shot away, what happens after doesn't count' - even more than the foot up shot block is the after shot clattering like Pickford did that time for Everton on VVD.

We look so different getting the ball on the turn and actually going at the defenders, stuff just opens up.

I felt that going behind early would be good for England, force them to play less conservatively. Hope they carry on like that, they have been easily the better team. Come on England! ⚽

natural left footer who can play a first time ball as well as come inside. As much as I love KT (and as RB a different proposition) he only asks one question, Shaw can as two.

Mrs Binners is away with work tonight and is staying in a quite posh hotel that wouldn’t normally have something as frightful as the footy on but they’ve put a telly in the bar for the night.

I just got this message

It’s all kicking off here! One woman wanted to sit at ‘her’ evening table but it’s near the tv so she wanted the tv moving. Funnily enough 1/2 way through the match they said no, so she’s standing in the middle of the room blocking people’s view. Some pissed Newcastle bloke just shouted ‘sit the * down you Tory *’

They haven't particularly, Dutch have bolstered their midfield to stop us getting on the ball in space so easily.

Never a penalty but we’ve had them go against us in the past it’s how it goes, but Watkins’ goal was incredible. Wish I’d laid the bet on for them to win this am had a chance at 50/1.

We don't. We set up to play the way we have that got us here. Spain are a decent side for sure, but have a tendency to switch off at the back and if France (Mbappe even) had his boots on the right feet could easily have conceded three in the second half.

If you set up just as a counter to your opponent, against a side like Spain they'll eventually do you over.
