Sorry if it's been done (I can't find a thread).

Not sure if I am bothered or not – they don't do a great deal for me but if they replace with Muse or Coldplay I may have to set myself alight.

Agreed, but Foo Fighters was as far as I deemed acceptable.

Could've been worse.

Before Kanye was announced on Saturday night I was praying (not really, but you know what I mean) that Coldplay weren't headliners. I think god decided to f&*k with me.

What's wrong with Dave Grohl? He's only broken his leg! I can remember seeing Bad News at Reading back in the day with Colin Grigson rocking the stage in a wheelchair! Pah!

I told a girl in the office that Jedward was the replacement. The overreaction was quite a shock to me! 🙂

He wouldn't cut it as a moto GP rider:@)

I can only guess its about putting on a full show, rather than sitting on a stool.

apparently doctors orders as less than 2 weeks from the operation to pin it so not meant to weight bare on it for any length of time and it's not as if glasto is particularly wheelchair complaint.

was really looking forward to seeing them and Florence doesn't come close to filling their shoes, but guess you don't really have any choice 10 days before the gig in finding a replacement

There are probably some other bands on at the festival.

No doubt it's a difficult situation but Emily Eavis tweeting "So happy Florence is going to step up to headline Friday night, she's going to smash it" is a bit of a piss take. Shuffling someone you clearly didn't think was a headliner up the running order is hardly a triumph.

Yeah, the Docs told him he could risk long term damage if he didn't listen to their orders – I know who I would put first if it was me.

He talks about it here - can't fault the guy's honesty.

Should have booked the Wildhearts - I saw them do Reading and complete a full set after the bass player dislocated his knee during the first song - the roadies just sat him on a flight case and let him get on with playing. He did try and stand up at the end, then very promptly sat down again.

Being the Wildhearts though, he'd quite possibly already had some strong "pain killers" before going on stage. That's my tip for Dave Grohl then - serious heavy-duty drugs..

it does feel a little if they haven't tried that hard by only spending a morning ringing round for replacements since the announcement last night. still, i'm sure I'll find somewhere else to get myself into to trouble if not at the foo's

Do you not think that, just perhaps, the Eavis family didn't just find out about the decision last night when they went onto the Sky News website?

ok, as his operation was on Monday and the doctors didn't make the call until afterwards, a day and a half ringing round.

still doesn't seem like pulling out all the stops or exhausting all options. however, as previously stated i'm sure it's very slim pickings

I am sure it was massively slim pickings - getting someone in (with all the logistics and legal stuff required) at such short notice would have been tough.

And I bet the minute they heard about him breaking his leg they would have been weighing up their options.

Nice sentiment but if I was heading to Glasto wanting to see the Foo Fighters and I got Florence and her ****g machine instead I'm not sure it could get much worse.

I'm just glad I saw the Foo Fighters in Manchester a few weeks back. I respect everyone has different tastes and that people who deem them boring can go back to listening to their 29+ singlespeed equivalent of bizarre underground rock but they were bloody brilliant in Manchester.

Which is pretty much identical to what Grohl did when he broke his leg. Fell off the stage, broke, back onto stage singing while paramedic put splint on his leg

But that wouldn't happen as you wouldn't know who you were seeing when you bought your ticket... And I don't know why you say that anyway – I quite like the Foo Fighters and I quite like Florence + The Machine. They aren't mutually exclusive are they? Unless you are an out and out metalhead and then you should be at Download or (at a push ) Reading/Leeds.

Not really, the Foos were confirmed in February. Final payment for main sale tickets wasn't until April, and of course you could even have bought in the resale on the strength of a pretty firm lineup.

I like the foos and florence but they're not really of the same stature, she'd not be headlining this on merit. But that's just how it is, you can't magic a headliner from nowhere. I think Glastonbury at least is less about the headliners than most.

Sometimes they'll find someone interesting to put in the middle and improve the bill, sometimes not (I remember t in teh park lost a headliner or second top one year, so they just moved everyone up one step and had the stage open an hour late, that was taking the mick...)

(PS, Danny McCormack's knee never really recovered after he did that to himself, left him with chronic pain issues which probably didn't help his depression, heroin addiction etc... Probably would have been a good idea to have got in an ambulance really. Good gig though!)

With the Foos pulling out that just leaves Fee, Fi, Fo and Fum.

And Kanye 'Fish Stick' West.

Fair enough, on a technicality, but the vast majority of people buy the tickets and go irrespective of the line-up, which they don't know when they first get them.

Largely true johndoh, but Emily Eavis has still got some cheek crowing about bumping up the second stringers to the headline slot on the same night. Not exactly a triumph of booking, or even of rescheduling.

That's not really how it read to me tbh, "pleased she's going to step up, she'll be great" isn't the same as "woo we're awesome for having her headline!!1!".

I do think she'll make a good headliner really - I think she has enough presence to nail it. Certainly not my favourite artist but a perfect fit for the Glastonbury vibe I reckon.

Still wish it'd been Kanye that had broken his leg. What's the betting Paul McCartney joins him on stage though....

Exactly. At this time of the year, pretty much every band worth seeing is already committed to either a tour or festivals; the list of bands/artists of a stature to headline Glasto at such a ridiculously short notice must number in minus figures.
Anyone who imagines otherwise isn't paying attention to how the live music business has operated over the last couple of decades.
Personally, I'm really glad I got tickets for IoW rather than Glasto, I stood at the front at the main stage for three days and enjoyed everyone who was on, although the Prodigy in pissing rain was challenging at my age, being in the thick of the mayhem that ensued.
