looking for other people's experience of food posioning.
been about 12 days since the first day of the illness, lost a total of 6 kgs since then.
Sort of recovered now, my doctor has confirmed it was food posioning, and said it will still take a while to fully recover.
Obviously biking has been non existent, hoping to get out tomorrow, but still quite tired.
Anyone had similar issues in recovering?
Why did you subject yourself to it for so long? If you'd given a sample on day 2 the Dr could have given you the appropriate treatment and you'd have been sorted by day 4.
globalti - In the UK Dr's do not just dish out anti biotics, I dont know if you have actually heard, but its not great for you in the long term!
I think its some thing like 5 days before a doc will entertain you, and then its a sample, and treat if it comes back with something nasty.
OP - Are you taking pro biotic stuff? I wouldnt get back on a bike too soon.
I guess my view is coloured by the fact that I only get stomach problems on business trips to Africa, where time is money and I certainly don't want to be caught out while stuck in a Lagos five-hour traffic jam, so I always cary tummy tabs, formely Ciprofloxacin and now Xifaxanta, which is much more user-friendly.
12 days sounds horrendous 😯
Hope you're feeling better
Globalti - What will you do if you develop resistance to those anti biotics?
Doctors won,t give anything to combat it, unless you are on deaths door.
The general consensus is the the first three days are just grin and bear it, it should improve after three days.
If it doesn't, then a visit to the Doctor.
He gave me some very good advice saying that you need to keep hydrated at all cost, and get the poison out of your body naturally.
Most people he sees who complain of food posioning don,t actually have food posioning but a severe stomach upset.
I know the difference now.........
I have had food poisoning, was ill for 2 weeks but took me another 2 weeks before I fully got my appetite back so was fairly tired during this. I lost about a stone
Got electrolytes from the doctor, nothing else
Globalti - What will you do if you develop resistance to those anti biotics?
I won't develop resistance to any antibiotic! I might contract a strain of bacterium that is already resistant but, from an entirely non-medical point of view, I would guess that as Xifaxanta is not in widespread use in tropical West Africa the likelihood of that happening is very small indeed. If I only took a couple then stopped I suppose it's possible that a resistant variation might survive then thrive in my gut but that would be a bit silly, wouldn't it?
I had it bad over Christmas a couple of years ago. We all went to the pub from the office on Christmas eve. I was bed ridden for 5 days and lost half a stone. Just flushed it through with water, took electrolytes on day 5 which stopped me feeling like death. Recovered ish just in time to go back to work in the new year, nice. Needless to say, never been in the pub since. The Tweseldown Pub in Church Crookham for the record. Avoid at all cost. They don't keep their ale well either.
