Looking for one for the good lady, somewhere to heat food, eat, or even sit down for a bit isn't high on NHS funding, so it's be ideal if I could send her toddling off to work with some nice soup or stews etc on a cold day.

Anyone have one that would keep food warm 5 hours?.

Cheers.

Mrsstu has been using one of these for a few years.
Says it works well.

We send our daughter to school with hot lunch in a food flask, she says it's warm enough - and believe me we'd know if it wasn't.

Got one myself now to take grub into work, but I've yet to christen it.

That last bit sounds wrong doesn't it.

I've not found one I'd recommend but I've noticed that it helps to pre-warm them with boiling water and fill them to the top. Also stick them inside a coat. Mine are normally luke warm by lunch though...

Been using one of these every winter for last 10 years or so. I heat it with boiling water before adding hot food, still hot 6hrs later. Would buy again.

I've got the same one as mrsstu - works really well for 4-6 hrs and comes with a cool SS foldy spoon which appeals to me every time I unfold it.
It does dent easily though and the enamel chips off

How is this not dangerous? Even rice at room temp for 2 hourz can kill you, cos bacteria?

So, are all those who've posted, actually recommending from beyond the grave? 🤣

Thanks folks!

Thermos one here. As above must be prewarmed and brimmed full. No rice or chicken tested but soups/pasta no probs

Thermos one here as well. Seriously good. Often take curries to work with me and no problems with rice. Pre-warming should be a given, however. Oh, and don't wash it up in the bowl or dishwasher as you'll blow the seal and won't do it's job. Found this out to my cost when the last time I took a curry to work it was lukewarm. I can blame the other half for that though as I was already wise to that (did the same to a Stanley flask many years ago).

Nonsense. If you want to store cooked food, you should put it into the fridge or freezer as soon as you can. Cooked rice is perfect for bacteria to grow, so leaving at at room temperature allows them to start growing, but it's not toxic after a couple of hours, it's just that the bacteria have had time to start growing so you shouldn't then store it and eat it later. Food that has been cooked and put into a thermos while still hot will be perfectly fine for lunch, given that millions of people do this everyday without dying.

Fried rice is commonly made with yesterday's boiled rice. Providing it has been cooled quickly and then stored in the fridge, it's OK.

as a few have said first thing I do is put kettle on and put boiling water into flask after that whatever doesn't leap out of fridge and kill me is considered..preheat essential

The Stanley one is really good - keeps food hot until lunch.

Same thing happens if you use one for transporting liquid nitrogen 🙂

Well, got her the Thermos one, and it's wicked, went in the pre-warmed flask at 6am before my morning run, and she reported it as piping hot at 1pm, that's a result. Just ordered myself one too, for hill walking duties.

Cheers folks.

A bit late to the party but we also have Thermos ones for my wife to take soup to work and one daughter for packed lunches (pasta normally). We have the pretty patterned ones. Ladies seem to like that sort of thing.
