I'm considering a can crusher, something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ThinkRecycling-Heavy-mounted-Crusher-drink/dp/B07GD2W24L/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=can+crusher&qid=1557309026&s=gateway&sr=8-5

However, I want to crush food cans in addition to drinks cans and I'm not sure this will be man enough for those.

Anyone tried something similar and confirm it handles food cans and/or suggest something the definitely will crush food cans?

The description says it does food cans. The longer description singles that out as one of the best things about it. The pictures show it crushing a food can. The Q&A has an answer saying it crushes food cans.

Like you, I'm still suspicious. But with all that in mind, why not just buy it and return it if it doesn't work? Amazon make that very easy.

What's the point of these? Unless you're running some sort of business then unless you fill your recycling bin too easily then they get crushed/processed/whatevered down-stream in the process. Me - I just climb in the wheely bin and jump up and down to get more stuff in it.

The point is I want to stop climbing in the wheely bin and jumping up and down.

I can crush milk containers and drink cans with my feet. A dedicate crusher would be a nicer solution, but if it doesn't do a reasonable job on food cans it's not really worth it IMHO.

In our area the glass/tin recycling boxes are very small (no wheely bins here for recycling 🙁 ) so they get filled quickly (we normally fill two boxes a fortnight, some neighbours fill three or four) so we crush all our tins so we can get more in.

And OP - we have the same one as you linked to and yes it will crush food tins - they need the sides squeezing in (by putting the in in with the open end pointing forwards) to weaken the sides first though. It crushes beer / soft drink tins easily. We did have a lighter weight one briefly but I bent it at first attempt (so I got a refund from Amazon) , but I can assure you that the one you link to will be suitable.

Thanks, that's good enough for me!

Well quite! Reduce, Reuse, and as a final option, buy some tat off Amazon thus undoing all the good work you do, and Recycle 🙂

Open other end of can and it'll squash flat with very little pressure from your foot.

Nice one, I'll just do that, no need for a dedicated tool. Quite embarrassed that I didn't think of it myself. 🙁

Do remember to empty content of can into pan, bowl, plate or other suitable container before attempting this `:-)

Use a can opener to remove the bottom as well as the top, then the remaining tube is easy to flatten. The three pieces will be even more compact than a crushed can.

/edit - as avdave has already said 😀
