We had near on household mutiny when we veered from heinz Tommy ketchup. Only other one I can think of is Kellogs cornflakes or I'll stab someone at breakfast!

Sagres beer.
Branston beans.

I'm sure neither of them are the best, but they are widely available and I like them both.

Other than that, I'm quite flexible on everything else.

Froot Loops from Canada. I don't know what the 'Made under license' things are that I have seen for sale here, but they don't taste anywhere near as good as real, honest-to-goodness Froot Loops the way I knew them back in the Great White North.

Oh, on that note, Canadian Mountain Dew. The recipe is different to the us and uk version, and tastes much nicer.

Smuggled 3 litres back this last visit, lasted a week.

HP.

I once went to a greasy spoon for a fryup and was pleased to see HP bottles on the table. Poured said condiment onto breakfast, and discovered on the first mouthful that they had REFILLED HP BOTTLES WITH SOME SORT OF VILE BROWN NON-HP GOOP THE ****ING MONSTERS.

Anyway, I burned the place to the ground and killed the owner and all his relatives and friends which, as I'm sure you'll agree, was quite restrained, considering.

Tinas, yep, that's pretty much what the Canadian stuff is. It's caffeinated, but nowhere near as much as our stuff.

Marmite.

We had near on household mutiny when we veered from heinz Tommy ketchup.

I'll never repeat this if challenged but, I have a thing for cheap shit vinegary ketchup. (Only ever buy Heinz though.)

KP Space Raiders (beef flavour)

El Avion smoked paprika (Imported in bulk - pungent, deep, smoky, dense and reassuringly moist like no other paprika I've ever tried. So smokey can almost be used like mesquite)

Daddies sauce. HP is ok but is just not Daddies.

Garners pickled onions & shallots. These are the tittz. Every other brand is alarmingly inferior. You have to go home-made to equal or beat Garners.

Think am ok with just about everything else.

Mrs MR challenged me to a baked bean blind taste-off. Mozzers 27p beans won over both Heinz and Branstons. We both chose the Morrison's own brand. Surprising. *

Would like to do the same with English mustard, ie Colmans vs 3 or 4 supermarket brand's own. Reckon you'd guess the Colemans?

* Same blind tests were conducted with Rich Tea biscuits. IIRC McVities beat Lidl, Co-op and Morrisons. Didnt stop me buying Lidl though. Hey? 26p!! 20 packs later I've saved enough to buy some more poncey paprika 🙂

I'm with the OP on Kellogs cornflakes - it's the one cereal where the own brands are noticeably worse.

We also buy Heinz beans, solely because they do microwave packs.

Davidstow chedder. There's usually other cheeses in the fridge but there's always Davidstow.

Or "davvid-stow" as the cretin-who-should've-known-better on the M&S advert said.. I only heard that second hand, there's a reason I don't watch TV.

Marigold Veg Boullion
Baxters Soups
Meridian Peanut / Almond / Cashew butter

Pretty much it. There are a few other brands I like but they all have acceptable substitutes in Aldi or Lidl.

Both myself and my partner agree that it has to be Branston Beans and M&S caramel waffles. Nothing else will do. She says it has to be Heinz Ketchup whereas I'm less fussed but for me broon soss has to be HP.

Agreed, although as a coeliac who mourned the loss of Kellogs for many years I must say the new Nestle gluten free cornflakes are pretty damn good.
Sure the taste is different but at least the texture is good, not these horrible hard knobbly things that other brands try and pass off as cornflakes.

You know you can microwave the tinned ones too, yes? You just have to tip them out of the tin first. Those little 'snap pot' things were massively overpriced last time I looked.

I won't have a microwave in the house, don't like them. I have to repair them at work sometimes and I like that even less. 2000VDC running around in there, no thanks.

+1 On the Flying Goose sauce, lovely stuff. That along with Encona original and Cholula are always in the cupboard here.

Rooster is the original Sriracha, everything else is a copy. I adore the Flying Goose stuff but have never had the Rooster, much harder to come by here.

Sainsburys ketchup is better than Heinz.

That's surely fighting talk (I'll check it out).

Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce

Not veggie-friendly so no good to me. The veggie options are ok, but I've dodged this bullet by making my own.

There used to be but ingredients change to 'new improved' when what they're really saying is we've used cheaper ingredients and hope they can fool the public. I don't have any favourite brands for food unless Fuller's London Pride could be included.

After a bit of a think.

Definitely Marmite as mentioned above.
Bonne Maman strawberry jam.

Also, recently, I've developed a weak spot for Fentimans Curiosity Cola...

porky whites sausages

This nearly had me in tears. Having moved from Surrey to Scotland 2 1/2 years ago, this is one of the things I miss the most. We've turned to making our own sausages for a replacement.

Sorry but lidl Jaffa cakes are better than macvitties. Recommended on her, sainsbury's French Mayo is better than Hellmanns (you buy Heinz Mayo over Hellmanns? Bizarre)

Otherwise Heinz +1 jamj1974

Heinz Ketchup doesn't taste like I remember it as a child.
I switched to Tip Tree and it's much more like it...
[img] [/img]

I've never tasted a Branson copy that tastes the same, but then I prefer other chilli/tomato chutneys.

I used to like Marmite, but now prefer this:

Well if we're going all liquid; Roses Lime Cordial and Dubonnet. Just for making a sauce for the calves liver. Oh, and the occasional Gimlet. Creme de Cassis too, for adding to a sauce made from duck carcass and red wine reduction.
