It seems the really small 'micro' caravans go down quite well on here, so I would like to present to you the Wheelhome Dashaway:

https://www.wheelhome.co.uk/portfolio/Dashaway

It's got a variety of interesting features - bike racks down each side, built in solar panel, and no gas. Fridge is compressor driven and the cooker is an induction hob!

Yeah eribas ate pretty cool but cost a lot. A decent Tab can be got for under 10k and it does the same job.

Some friends of mine are selling their little teardrop for considerably less if anyone wants one 🙂

I don’t understand these.

If you’re going to all the faff of towing a caravan anyway, why wouldn’t you just have a normal sized one?

Seems like all the drawbacks of a touring van but without a lot of the benefits, like , you know, standing up and that

full disclosure: my parents have an eriba but they’re clearly mental.

I read a bit about the Dashaway in a mag. Pretty neat & environmentally friendly (according to the bumf) but like Angellis said 'HOW MUCH'!
I also like the look of the Basecamp & there's some decent usable space in there. Can't see the point of those Teardrop shaped things as they look as though they only have a bit of headroom in the middle, although I haven't actually checked one out TBF.
Eriba's? Also seem expensive for what they are, popular though & there's obviously a reason for that. (somewhere)
These look ok, https://www.go-pods.co.uk/ but look small for 2 people. I saw a solo traveller with one in Scotland & he loved it.
I'll stick to our Bailey Pegasus for now! (till we change it maybe next year) 😉

I agree, like people who tow a car behind a motorhome. I mean, doesn't that defeat one of the main benefits of having a MH?

I can see the idea, it's for the people with little cars who can't tow a proper caravan and want more luxury than a tent.

But why not buy a proper sized tent (my sister and bil have a massive teepee tent which houses them and 2 children with ease, they just pull a small trailer) or spend the 23k on accommodation...

That portapotty under the kitchen is nice though, you can take a dump whilst cooking up your beans on toast 😁

We went looking at motorhomes yesterday and noticed the Knauss 'sport & fun' - toy hauler/non brown velour interior caravan

Our caravan cost £500 has a fridge, 3 burner rings, no bog though, we took it out and keep the bbq in the cupboard it was in. Arrive at a campsite, lower legs, hook up electric and crack open a beer. Nice place to sit when it rains. Dont get that with a tent.

Someone should tell my Dad this then.

Towing his Eriba with a Discovery is probably overkill

The actual towing would be far easier with that little thing. Also you'd get much better fuel economy. Especially with the bikes stashed at the side.

But why not buy a proper sized tent

Cos tents are a right faff, see earlier thread.

I'm so tempted this autumn by an old 2 berth touring van, end bathroom. Budget under £1k...
If it lasts more than a year, I'm quids in...

seen the Scamp things which are basically a bed and carpet in a trailer with a roof.  and similarly overpriced.

they don't seem to brag too much about the bike racks down each side, so I'm guessing they're only goof for a hipster fixie with chopped down bars?  or you have to rotate bars on any sensible bike?

I also saw from them that caravans are also a tight faff.

Just stay home

Do it.
I often think back to our first caravan, bought for £800. Was only 850kg but housed the four of us when the boys were little. Did a few jobs on it, lined the squeaky floor & re-carpeted, re-sealed the seems, added black out roller blinds from Argos!!!, updated the electrics. If you can change a plug or fix a bike you’ll do anything on a caravan.
We doubled our money when we sold it.

@essel - if you've got a big motorhome then popping out for the day, or to the supermarket is easier in a Smart car than in a 8m behemoth.

Towing them won't really reduce the mpg that much
