after their death, get slagged off on here? & I'm talking celebs/entertainers & such, not our heroic sports idols/politicians. (?)
Seems like as soon as someone pops it, someone on here has to have a pop/criticise/slag off & even go to though bother of saying they don't care (that one always makes me wonder & I may have been guilty myself!)

So, who do you reckon

John Peel.

Not a chance.

It's worth remembering that this was a man who married a 15-year-old in the US (which, at the time, was legal in Texas) when he was in his mid-twenties, and who was later discovered to have had at least one other relationship with an underage girl in the UK. And let's not forget his Schoolgirl of the Year competition on his Radio 1 show in the early Seventies.

From a now cache-only article in the Indy. He married a 15 year old when he was in his mid 20s, FFS. Conveniently in a location where it was legal at the time. Oh, and there's ANOTHER relationship with an underage girl in the UK, too. Kiddy fiddler.

Trevor McDonald?

He called national hero Bernard Manning a "fat white bastard". In this age of the constantly-offended, surely someone on here would be outraged on the fat white bastard's behalf?

In the spirit of such derailment from OP, I'll say there's something that just doesn't sit right with me, about David Jason.

The John Peel had a relationship with a minor thing is a tad unfair- the girl in question admitted to the press she had told John she was 21. He was pretty upset about it, he wrote about it in his biography.

OP I really don't understand what you are saying ... ffs speak English please.

Oh ya ... I really don't care. Really.

There is NO house without death but it is how you die that matters.

I like to observe how people die. i.e. a good death or a bad death. The former dying peacefully in sleep without illness or sickness. The latter could be one that is blown to pieces with no whole remains, then you got the in between ... I like to look at death.

Without knowing death we don't know how to live. 😯

As a young man he worked as a DJ in Texas in a local radio station. Much later he recalled that girls, some as young as 13, used to queue up outside his radio station.

In his own words;

All they wanted me to do was to abuse them sexually which, of course, I was only too happy to do.

Well, of course I didn’t ask for ID. All they wanted me to do was to abuse them sexually which, of course, I was only too happy to do.

After he was "tricked" once, he probably shouldn't have gone through with the wedding.

You know, if it was only going to upset him.

And also, maybe he should have implemented a more rigorous selection process, to avoid being "tricked" again, and again, and again etc.

I don't know anyone who dislikes Simon Weston?! Forces or otherwise - service and injuries aside he's devoted his life to chairty and support for forces personnel?

David Jason? Lovely man (as far as we can tell) a career of lovable characters and not even a wiff of Yewtree about him, which is amazing considering the scope of it.

Tony Ben? On here anyway, the hard core Tory and UKIP lot didn't like him much.

I'm always surprised how vehemently people talk about "hating" public figures. They might be annoying, irritating, stupid, talentless, chin less wonders, but there must be a lot of angry keyboard warriors to turn that into hate.

Not really happy to slag anyone off before or after their death. It's easy to do but should we?

Some may appear worthy of it but who knows...?

What circumstances drive people to do what they do? Some people do very bad things but who are we to judge?

People will perhaps disagree but criticising someone without walking a mile in their shoes is not fair.

I was about to slag off Parky (smarmy git), but then I read this great passage on his Wikipedia page:

In May 2009 Parkinson bemoaned the state of TV generally, saying he was "fed up of the rise of celebrities hosting shows, ridiculously-titled documentaries and property shows", saying "In my television paradise there would be no more property programmes, no more police-chasing-yobbos-in-cars programmes and, most of all and please God, no more so-called documentary shows with titles like My 20-Ton Tumour, My Big Fat Head, Wolf Girl, Embarrassing Illnesses and The Fastest Man on No Legs."[44] On 11 October 2010, Parkinson appeared on Richard Bacon's Radio 5 Live show where he was particularly critical of comedian and actor Russell Brand, saying: "I don't see the point of him."[45]

I misread the thread title as "Following on from the Cilla thread, who, if anyone, wouldn't.....?"

So it could have been worse.
