anyone flown to Tromso with their bike?
if yes, who did you use.
just tried to find out via KLM. no joy.
Flown with snowboard a few times to Tromso, but had to fly to Oslo first. Used SAS - luggage is forwarded automatically when flying onwards with same airline now in Oslo - you used to have to collect and re-check from memory a few years ago.
If you book SAS Plus you get two hold bags (one of which can be sports) which can *sometimes* work out cheaper than 'Economy plus extra baggage' and you get 'priority baggage' ...
thanks digby. just spoke to SAS. all doable. cheers
Tried Norwegian Air?
Yes, with a tandem no less. SAS.
Dunno about bikes, but I've flown Norwegian with a folding canoe (think the biggest drybag you could imagine, about 20kg), and they didn't blink, just helped make it easy. Paid about £20 extra for a standard extra bag. The Scandis seem to think such activities are to be applauded, rather than as an opportunity to make you jump through hoops or pay through the nose.
Not done a bike but done a fair bit of random/big luggage with both SAS and Norwegian. As noted above, they don't bat an eyelid and are just helpful all the time. We had someone forget to check in from Stockholm to Edinburgh last week, only realised 40mins before departure, and the response from the Norwegian staff was "what's your booking ref? [Beep] there you go." I can't help but think that anywhere else and it'd have been a sorry you're too late or that'll be £££ please.
Norwegian do Gatwick to Tromso direct, or did do last year. Return had to be via Oslo though.
