I have to get to Bari in south(ish) Italy for a conference from Bolton in July. This leaves Manchester and Liverpuddle as ideal airports to fly from, which rules out flying direct to Bari. Currently I've found flights to Rome and Naples, but don't know of any airports closer to Bari. Does anyone know of any airports nearer than a 3-5h drive on the autostrada to Bari that you can get to direct from Manchester?
Alternatively,
Stansted > Bari with ~ 3.5 hr drive to Stansted?
Still less than 5 hours in Italy....
Or train from Rome/Naples to Bari? Check trentalia.com and see if there are frecciarossa (eurostar superfast) trains going that way
There's no direct flights from Manchester/Liverpool to Bari or Brindisi (the only other viable international airport in Puglia). I'm with crzaybrab - best choice is to Ryanair from Stansted to Bari.
Ryanair 😯
I would actually like to get there with my luggage!
kayak.com / skyscanner.net suggest you can fly from MAN->BRI via Zurich on Swiss in about 5:15 hrs or from Leeds Bradford to Bari (with 2 stops) with Alitalia in 6-6:30 hours. However, cost might be prohibitive (£380 for Alitalia flights, ~£500 Swiss rtn) compared with flying direct to Naples with Easyjet and driving/train.
BA / easyJet from Gatwick ?

what kind of conference are you going to that needs more than carry-on luggage?

One that's a week long, and I was hoping to have some time whilst there to do some sight-seeing and photography (and tripods need checking in). Plus I'll have loads of work with me that'll be most of my hand luggage in papers / laptop etc + camera and lenses. I assume over the course of a week I'll need to take at least one change of clothes with me 😉
