Someone has dumped what looks like the whole of an Asbestos Garage Roof on the road outside mine and my neighbours houses...

Its been litterally chucked on the road, half covered with an old bed sheet (That'll keep us all safe)...

Unfortunately my neigbours CCTV setup wasn't recording as it would have got the buggers number plate (covers front acceess to the houses and a bit of the street)

I called the council and they're dispatching people to clean it up but I can't help worrying that because we live in a nice quiet little close out of the way we might get more shadey cocks with vans chucking crap on our street after each and every cash in hand job they do...

I'm thinking of sorting myself a basic CCTV jobbie just in case they do it again...

Any other measures I can take (Wee in shoes and bombers not withstanding)?

are there obvious exits from your road? You could get the cctv footage if you know the time as there is bound to be some

number plate would'nt be much use if they were gypo's, which they always are in our area.
even if vehicle was registered to a relevant address, police would do nothing - i've witnessed this.

The Police don't you're right, the Environmental Agency and local councils do the prosecuting.

The police will only do something if they're not gypsies ? That's terrible 😐

I bet they wouldn't do anything about it if they were black or muslim either. The police would probably be too worried about "offending them" and their so-called "human rights". It's political correctness gone stark raving bonkers. Richard Littlejohn is right......you can't make this sort of thing up.

Genius. If I'm ever renovating all I have to do is empty the lot on the road outside my house and look innocent 😆

Nope, it's not come from any local garages that I can see. We live in a small, quiet cul-de-sac so only one route in/out, another resident did spot a van earlier in the day but thought nothing of it so didn't get a plate, I've seen a couple of vans knocking about during the day in the last couple of weeks...

One of our friends who lives round the corner is a Rozzer I think he might make some enquirys in the area also...

The damage is done now and council are clearing it up, my real concern though is a repeat of this taking place...

Being a quieter area there are plenty of kids in the area (including our own) if some shitbag feels comfortable dumping hazardous waste in a residential area once there's nothing really stopping them doing it again in another few weeks/months from now when the fuss from this has died down, I really want them caught and prosecuted. It seems part of what makes ours a quite nice place to live also serves to make us a prime target for dumping.

I really, really wish my neighbour's CCTV had been recording as we'd have been handing the police an easy conviction and preventing a proper scumbag from trying the same thing again....

Edit:

Who mentioned Gypsies/travelers? Not me, and I wouldn't presume to either, there's still plenty of shady individuals who have no connection to the traveler community...

Project your own world view on this if you want, but it's not my bag cheers...

I also live on a quite (no throughway) close. At least 5 times since we've lived there I've caught Irish sounding fellas walking back out of peoples drives having 'grazed'/looked through the rear of neighbours houses. When challenged 'just visiting my mate', 'sorry needed the toilet', 'I'm lost', 'do you have any scrap to sell'?

We don't live in Ireland.

i'd bet my mortgage agasint this. as i said, on many more than one occasion i've witnessed how didly squat gets done about it.

IMO, it is the 'travelling community' doing the lions share of dumping but no-one will stand up and admit it.
I've witnessed fly tipping, and physical threats, and physical violence, and every time i've seen charges amount to nothing.

but perhaps your quiet charming village is immune.

Good point. If as you say they were "Irish sounding", then why aren't they in Ireland ? They're obviously up to no good - it's just that no-one will stand up and admit it.

I work on a farm site in rural Essex. Fly tipping is a routine feature of life for the farmer. It isn't all travellers, but there is a noticable increase in incidents when they are in the area. However, the bigger issue here is the stupidity of the way in which refuse sites are run. Bascially, its a case of lets make it really difficult and awkward for people to dispose of their rubbish legitimately, then when we've done that we can concentrate on the inexplicable rise in flytipping. Madness!!

If you've ever tried to dump asbestos cement sheeting legally you'll understand why some frustrated ****er dumped it in your road; it's an absolute nightmare.

Asbestos cement sheeting isn't very hazardous compared with raw asbestos but the jobsworths at the tip will go into a blind panic as soon as you mention that A word. They aren't allowed to make judgements about waste so it's treated like nuclear waste. Ironically, once they've filled their special container it will be driven away and emptied onto a dump where a machine with big spiky wheels will drive back and forth over it, ripping all the plastic bags open and breaking the asbestos sheet nicely into little bits and dust, which will fly all over the place.

Me dealing with asbestos cement sheet: (of course I was wearing a mask, do you think I'm stoopid?)
