After years of family harassment the family snowboarding for Easter 2016 is being replaced with the family trip to Florida.Last went in 2001 stayed on International Drive. Looking at flights pretty bloomin expensive , reduce dramatically if we have 1 stop , Dublin, France etc, is this such a heartache? Found a place called Paradise Palms Resort, seems to tick all the boxes , handy for the Magic, nice pools ,clubhouse etc.
2 adults and 5 "kids" 12-24yrs old. We would like to go out of an evening for food n beer some nights , are we handy for anywhere, what are taxis/buses like are they reasonable and readily available? last time we went it was with young children so no drink and drove ourselves everywhere.
Cheers!
I went in March this year with Virgin and had a car thrown in. We ate out a lot, cos frankly you want to experience these restaurants, but its defo not cheap. In fact its quite expensive, so you need a lot of spending money to enjoy it properly.
Also cabs aren't cheap either, so I'd look at a package that includes a car. You can't walk anywhere.
Also take some cash to splash in the outlets....some very good prices there for clothes wiv 'names'.
Its not what you want to hear, but I was [s]amazed[/s]depressed at how much I spent
We flew once with a stop in Atlanta and said never again, this was largely as we arrived having been quite delayed and then had a crash in the rental car on the way to the hotel.
Flying via Paris can be bizarrely cheaper, we've just seen this with a trip to Asia in November where if we go Paris - London - KL its cheaper than London - KL and by enough to pay for the eurostar and still save £100's ! If you break the trip definitely get the stop in early and try and see if you can take a flight where you don;t have to get off the plane.
We went for our 1st time in April this year. We got a Virgin package with car and hotel in Orlando and then 1 in Ft Lauderdale. To help keep flight prices down, we flew to/back Miami, Tampa is also cheaper than Orlando. Miami is about 3.5 hrs drive to Orlando, Tampa about 1.5hr.
Ordered our Disney tickets in UK, you will get fast passes too, which are very useful - there is an app which you can get for your phone. A few days before, check which are the busiest rides and book them on your pass - you only get 3 or so a day.
We drove to Kennedy Space Centre on way back to Ft Lauderdale. This is a must see! We also booked a rocket launch viewing, but unfortunately it was wasted as 90sec before it was due to launch, it was cancelled (no refund). Was a little gutted about that.
As for Orlando, its a wonderful place. Tons of eateries and of course an amazing amount of entertainment! We only booked Disney, as we had have a 6 yo.
For driving use offline mapnig Sat Nav, we used the Nokia one and it was great.
Its a truly amazing holiday! But cost us a fortune (5 years saving) - £7k for 3 of us.
Thomson have some cracking deals i just booked 2 weeks with car hire on international drive for £2270 for 4 of us 2 adults and 2 kids (10&4yrs) they have a code on that saves £50 per adult and £25 per child at the moment
Last time I went it cost me £49 for the flight and car hire for a fortnight.
£98 for me and the other half! Just found hotels etc when I got there.
Was about 20 years ago tho. Thank god for teletext holidays.
Cheers for all the replies, not liking the sound of $$$$$$ ,but hey ho you only live once and the kids will ditch me soon!!!Will look at Virgin and Thomson to see how far my £ goes!!
Second the amazingly expensive costs. If you do go visit Kennedy Space Centre.
TBH I thought Orlando was a dump and wouldn't go back in a hurry. Restaurants we visited were nothing special typical crap American food.
When life is short there are far better places to visit for the money.
We booked with charter travel 3 years ago.
Worked out £3,000 cheaper than Virgin
Went for 3 weeks and stayed in villa.
