Hi all,
Feeling a bit gutted right now due to the state of our living room floor. I was planning on laying new engineered wood flooring this weekend but I've been over the floor with a 6ft spirit level and found various high and low spots. A difference of 6/7mm over the length of the level, 3mm or so in other places. I've checked the installation instructions and the tolerance is only 3mm over 3m which is far less than i was expecting 🙁
Every bit of googling I've done says the sub floor needs ripping up and starting again, this sounds drastic and un-affordable. 🙁
Any suggestions? Has anyone fitted engineered flooring with this sort of unevenness? Is there a particular underlay is should use? Or another solutions?
Thanks.
What material is your current floor/sub-floor?

Sorry, should have said, chipboard.
3mm over 3m is bollox I'm afraid, that's in the realms of super flat floor.
DD will tell you the best method to use underlay wise but I'd hazard a guess there are very few floors within that tolerance.
Here I is!!
Dude, rather than writing a long list of options, just pm me and I’ll give you a call. Further advice will depend on what flooring etc you have. No worries if you need some advice. 6-7mm though?
That’s flat!! 😂
Latex levelling screed?
Just like I said, DD would be along soon. DD i bet you would absolutely love every floor to be 3mm in 3m? But back in the real world sod all are. Even if you latex it i'd doubt you'll get it that good.
OP I believe he knows his stuff 😉
That’s flat!! 😂
Could be flatter.....
