DIY quandary time...
Have any forum members re-varnished a wooden floor? If so, what did you use in the way of varnish? The floor has slightly worn coloured varnish already & I'm not sure if I should sand it right down or just key it lightly. Any tips for a reluctant diyer would be greatly appreciated!
Seen Ronseal stuff in Homebase and Screwfix and it seems to get very mixed reviews. Screwfix No Nonsense stuff gets quite consistent reviews & is cheaper. Anyone used either of them or have any other choices?
Cheers, Scruff
Your first decision is water based or white spirit based. If it's for a bathroom the nasty polluting white spirits based won't go milky each time it gets a soaking. I've also found the water based stuff doesn't stick to hard woods as well as white spirit based, on pine there's not much in it. Of the water based ones I've used the more I've paid the harder wearing they've been. Our whole house has sanded wood floors.
Ronseal diamond hard floor varnish here. Been in the hall for a year no prob no markings no wear I can spot including some serious building work in the house this year (steel beams etc). Easy to apply. Would defo use it again.
Applied to bare sanded pine floor.
