Keep my bikes, tools, computer etc in a 5 x 5m wooden workshop with a plain wooden floor. I'm looking for something to put down to make it easier to sweep up. At the moment I'm thinking a 5 x 5 m roll of lino would be best and cut it around any fitted units, but it's quite expensive and not even sure it'll be tough enough. Anyone have any recommendations?

We use 2nd hand 19mm deep rubber floor mats from a local gym which shut down.

Good for dropping tools and weights on and you can just mop it....

I’ve used recycled office carpet tiles in my workshop. Easy to vacuum up mess, and very cheap to replace any that have got oil or tyre sealant on as I bought “spares”

I’ll try and dig out the site that I bought them from…

edit

usedcarpettiles.com

Grade “C” are about 50p each!

Lino off a 5m roll is quite expensive assuming you want a single piece. Cheap click LVT might be worth a go, it's easy to fit, pretty forgiving of movement and imperfections, very hardwearing and waterproof.

In my shed I use one of those cheap vacuum cleaners from Screwfix for everything that doesn't drop between floorboard gaps onto concrete base.

Have often wondered if there's a better way for example covering the floor but when exercising in there it's nice to have the draft come up through the gaps and out the rafters.

Storing bikes in there, thats always going to bring dirt and dust in unless a fastidious bike washer (far from it myself).

So I just vacuum it up fairly frequently when I'm using the shed.

I quite like the idea of something waterproof for winter and turbo trainer days.

Unless I put a thin plastic sheet down under any interlocking tiles?

I've got some rubber stable mats. The texture makes it less easy to sweep but otherwise bombproof

I had old carpet in the garage at my last house, that worked great.

New place has lino down and that works well too.

You'll just get water / dampness under the tiles, which takes ages to evaporate.

Just go to your local fitters and see about an offcut. That's what I did and stuck it down with the appropriate double sided tape, you can use the proper adhesive if you really want to.
