Hi All,

Looking at visiting some family this christmas in Perth, me, the wife a 5 year old and a one year old.

Can anyone give me any advice as follows;

- Best time to book, as soon as they come available or last minute (ish) ?
- Who are the cheapest brokers / airline ?.

- best dates to fly
- Are the economy upgades (economy plus?) worthwhile
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Kev

Christmas 2013? Flights to and from Oz at Christmas get booked up and pricy. No idea whether you're better off buying now or in a few months but would suggest the sooner the better. My preferred airline out there is Emirates - great planes, direct with a handy stop in Dubai, generous luggage allowance, flexible and usually good value. Business class is a welcome treat for at least one leg!

We booked through Trailfinders as we wanted flights around Australia also. Flew with Emirates, B'ham - Dubai - Sydney. The Dubai - Sydney leg was a nightmare, 15hrs in cattle class. So glad we didnt have kids. When we go again we'll do it via HK or Singapore. Flight to Perth shouldnt be too bad. I would imagine anything near Xmas is going te be in demand.

kayak.co.uk for prices, options, +/- days, whole month matrix etc. Check it out.

Per takisawa2 ^ fly with Emirates but break the journey to avoid being a cattle for 15 hrs. LOL!

Go via HK as the airport tax (whatever they called that charges on air plane landing rights ...) is cheaper so your ticket should be cheaper. Via Singapore etc will be more expensive.

UK -> Dubai -> HK -> Ozland.

With kids I would recommend going via Dubai or singapore and having at least 1 night stopover....

Done the down under trip over 10 times......6 times with the kids

Emirates or Singapore airlines both been very good.

Oz flights at Xmas are always busy....

Good luck and remember slip slop slap

Sometimes you are cheaper to buy a round the world ticket.

imhe, there are never cheap flights to Oz, there are just expensive and megaexpensive. Kayak is good. Chinese airlines are offering cheaper flights these days. It used to be fractionally cheaper to fly on Xmas Day itself but that seems to have died out. Air Asia sometimes does cheaper lowcost flights via Kuala Lumpur but I can't remember if they fly to Perth.

Economy v premium economy: you might be richer than me but I'd rather take an extra day to recover than spend two days (or whatever) working to afford the upgrade. ymmv

Flying with Emirates to the far east is almost the cheapest especially to HK via Dubai.

If you want to save then you might need to check out the connection flight from HK to Ozland, but I would stick with Emirates all the way unless you can find another "low cost cattle class"connecting flight.

Only go for low cost connecting flight if the journey is less than 5hr or you will become a cattle.

Kayak is just average and will not give you the lowest price. I typed in a journey (not Ozland btw but somewhere far east) and the price is still about £250 - £300 more expensive then my own search.

I searched using Emirates own website to HK then searched local connecting cattle flight from HK to destination X ... and my search is still cheaper than Kayak.
