I am thinking of flying home for the weekend (Edinburgh to Belfast), the flight in question is showing as "scheduled" on the EJ website, Edinburgh airport is currently running, and AFAIK there's not too much snow forecast over the weekend in either airport.

Should it be OK or am I MAD?

As long as easyjet's planes aren't stuck elsewhere, then surely you'd be fine...

I had a nightmare last night with BA from Heathrow. Trying to fly to Geneva, all flights gradually cancelled through the morning expect mine the last one of the day. Kept checking all through the day, still listed as flying. Got dropped at the airport and ran inside to check the boards, still listed as flying an hour before departure time. So I say thanks to my lift who drive off, go back in and get directed back to the desks by the depature security people. I queue for 10 mins to be told my flight is cancelled after all, I must re-book via BA.com. Off course every other person on all the flights cancelled during the day has got there first, I am stuck. Barstewards.

I recommend avoiding air travel if at all possible at the moment.

I got up at 5 this morning to get a flybe flight down south from Edi - canceled at 9 as they couldn't de-ice the plane (?). The airport is open but everything is running late, which will just pile up the problems for later in the day. So I reckon a flight to Belfast could end up being a major hassle.

As someone who spent 8 hours since 4am sat bored in the flight deck of an A320 at Manchester, the situation is not looking great for any flights over the next 24 hours around the UK.

Manchester, like every other airport, is suffering from a lack of de-icing equipment. On top of that, I should think that current stocks of anti-icing fluid is now running low.

My flight was meant to depart for Gatwick at 5am... the delay being de-iced meant we picked up an ATC delay of 8 hours. This came forward to about 10am, but another delay getting the plane de-iced again led to a new slot time of 1920 this evening. We gave up at that point and went home.

No-one seemed to forecast the viciously cold temperatures either; it was -12 this morning and the freezing fog lasted hours, despite only having a 30% probability of happening.

To say I'm a bit pissed off is putting it mildly, especially since I'm now £200 out of pocket thanks to an unpleasant cause in my contract concerning cancelled flights.

Gatwick is only accepting 5 arrivals per hour at the moment, and the weather is unpredictable for the next few days at all UK airports. You will get your money back if the flight's cancelled, but don't bet on flying anywhere...

Wife had exactly same experience this morning, 6.50 flight - Edinburgh to Lanzarote. Sat on plane for 3 hours, couldn't de-ice. Deplaned, flight cancelled. Apparently now stuffing her face in Wetherspoons with her chums. On the plus side, the taxis are still running.

The problem I would see is You'll probably be able to fly out, but whether the return flight will be as scheduled that's a big maybe.

My friend flew out from Edinburgh to Poznan, all good. Return flight cancelled and airport shut over 2 days. She had to get a flight to London, than London to Glasgow and then her boyfriend drove to get her from Glasgow International. Than there was a fun 4 hour drive back to Edinburgh as it was snowing heavily.

I would just go for a long walk instead 😉

thanks guys. can't decide!

EDIT just seen last 2 replies. I've got a hearing in court on Monday, maybe best play it safe, particularly if I might lose my fare for a long delay.

That's a shame - I saw everyone get on that plane and assumed it had got off.

Isn't that the absolute worst thing about air travel - incremental movement to give the illusion of progress, that you're actually getting somewhere. They could make everyone just wait in the airport to de-ice the plane, but people might get upset at the delay. So it's better to herd everyone onto a plane so that they think their journey is beginning.

Garry - once the plane is de-iced there's a limited holdover period before it has to be repeated. In some conditions (freezing fog) this can be as little as 15 minutes, which is why it's sprayed on with everyone on board and the plane ready to go (in theory...)

are the boats not sailing? May be a safer option than flying?
