Just about to get on a flight to go to Amsterdam for a birthday party for Mrs W's sister, and it's cancelled. Tried to get alternative flights, ferries etc with nothing really viable when factoring travel the other side etc. Mind you Mrs W did get her photo with Courtney Laws at the terminal!

Anyway what to do this weekend (and I'm not allowed to ride). Any suggestions? Two or even three nights if we go now. Based in Milton Keynes so up to a couple of hours driving/train possible but somewhere with something going on, music, markets, a Christmas vibe, good veggie food options etc.

She said ask Singletrack!

Manchester ticks all those boxes, especially at this time of year. Direct train to Piccadilly in the heart of the city.

Indeed, and if you fancy a gig, I've got a pair of tickets for Turin Brakes at Manchester Uni tomorrow night that you can have for a charity donation. We can't go, shame to see them go to waste.

Cambridge is only 50 miles from MK, and nice place to spend a weekend, plus christmas market is decent and lots of independent shops not just the chains... plus students have mostly gone.. easy place to cycle around too

Manc sounded great but 2 seats have popped up on another flight so Amsterdam is back on!!! Only £300 extra robbing beetards.

Thanks guys and I'd have done the Turin Brakes gig. Suppose it will just have to be me, the brother in law and several litres of Amstel!

Just be aware of train strikes on different services until Sat:  https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service-disruptions/industrial-action-20231116/
Cambridge is pretty but hotels are expensive.
+1 to Manc for nice Christmas shopping e.g. Manc Craft and Design Centre in the northern quarter. But the Chanel fashion show is happening today so again finding accommodation last minute might be tricky.
Liverpool is always great for a night out.
This is the last weekend of the Bath Christmas market which is very good (handicraft type stuff).

Edited to say too late! Enjoy Amsterdam.

Why on earth do you want to leave MK, the City Of Dreams?

Mister P it’s only pressure from Mrs W and her sister that means I’m going to betray my love of MK. Don’t worry though, I’ll drink through it…….

If you're at the airport with bags. Just take the next sub £100 (ish) flight taking off with a return on Sunday & see somewhere new you wouldn't otherwise go to.
