Looking for a couple of light/warm zip up fleeces, without hoods. Let's call them Dad-office-fleeces.

Seems like every female staff member at work is hot. And not in a good way. Currently sat at my desk with my puffa jacket on as that's all I had in the car. AC is on 18c "Cold".

Previous years TNF half zip are utter crap and falling apart. Something along those lines but a little better fitting than the TNF are.

Had a TNF Denali jacket which also was designed by someone who has no concept of human anatomy. Cosy. In the same way as wearing 4 bin liners might be.

Bear in mind - I'm in Aus so don't be speccin' some niche UK company that hand weaves merino threads on the knees of a fair maiden paddling a coracle down the river Severn.

Polartec perhaps? Don't know. Just give me some ideas as I'm very tempted to put the AC on 35c heat and slowly par-boiling my lovely colleagues.

Montane do some nice light active fleeces but whilst not a niche brand not sure how available they are outside the UK

For the handwoven merino niche what about Devold? Whilst a Norwegian brand their merino fleeces are made in New Zealand. Had a nice one brought back as a present.

I've got nothing constructive to add, but flippin eck!

Today here (south coast of Spain) it's 30c in the shade outside today...

Shutters slightly open for air exchange, ceiling fans on, and it's very comfortable.

I only use the AC in my bedroom at night set to 24c... And even then not all night, just intermittently as it can get too cold, never mind using more electricity than a small country!

1. I'm in Australia dude not Austria. Southern Hemisphere. It's Winter. I'm closer to Antartica than Spain (I think...)

2. We're kinda used to AC use here, and have one or two solar panels dotted around. Battery backup systems too (health facility). Don't worry bout the leccy.

3. Are you surrounded by menopausal women are convinced they're melting and need the AC setting to Mr Freeze?

OK I'm really confused what you're agreeing with. I'm cold, in winter, looking to warm up. You're warm, like your AC on at night for a little bit, and using a bit of leccy.

It's like we're twins. Or something.

I really like my Patagonia.  Well made, decent company, and it's their 'better sweater' style knit rather than pile.  but they do pile stuff as well

Was going to suggest Montane too but that might not work for you given your location.

Would a fleece gilet be appropriate/sufficient?

You really should be looking at a gilet, but not in fleece.

once it begins to ‘pill’, it’ll be a pain to maintain, even with one of these:

Macpac is a Kiwi brand, so should be available in Australia, I think. They do good stuff including fleece. Kathmandu also from NZ, less 'technical' than Macpac. There must be Australian brands too.

Polartec is a fabric brand - Malden Mills - rather than a clothing one and produces good quality fleece, but you pay a premium for it and own-brand fleece fabrics will be fine for sitting around the office and other stuff too.

Patagonia does nice stuff and has a decent sustainable vibe, but the cut can be a bit boxy. You could always buy a nice wool cardy and leather patch the elbows for wear resistance  🙄

Yes, fleece will pill, but Sherpa fleece is the worst for it. I’ve got fleece jackets that are years old, my favourite gilet is a Fox Racing one I bought in Chamonix in around 1995, it has a back pocket, but when I bought it it didn’t have handwarmer pockets, so I had some put in. In all the time I’ve had it it’s never pilled to any significant degree! Same is true with most of the fleece jackets I have.

Honestly, I can only suggest looking for Australian outdoor suppliers, looking at their clothing brands, and seeing if there’s any local outlets where you could try stuff on. I’m not going to suggest anything because I  don’t know what sort of size, build you are.

I have two Animal fleece shirts, again they’re years old, highish collar, zip neck, no elastic in the cuffs, and I’ve worn them repeatedly for years, but sadly they don’t make an equivalent, something like those would be ideal, in a Polartec, if you can find something.

I find fit on outdoors stuff can be really variable as well so I just try on loads until I find a good one

Is there an Aus version of Go Outdoors - big multi-brand outdoors store you can go to

FWIW I find Rab a good fit - but maybe a bit of overkill for wearing at work

I don’t know what the Aussie equivalent to Decathlon is, but I’ve got a few of their fleeces. They’re not overly fancy but would do what you needed them to do.

Why does it have to be a fleece anyway? Whats wrong with a jumper?

You should speak to your HR - our company provides us with fleeces branded with the company name. Handy for me to leave hanging on my chair for when I ride in. They are banded Regatta Professional. Professional use only, I suspect 😛 . Actually they're quite nice fleeces.

Patagonia better-sweater jacket is basic and smart.

Ortovox fleece plus (hoodless) jacket is fantastic .. however I don`t think they do the hoodless version this year.

Fjallraven buck fleece gilet is a great all weather alternative.

hehe.... People are wearing puffa jackets here! It's 20c today (yeah it's winter but we're having a bit of late sun will be super wet for a couple of months. We're also the windiest city in Australia, apparently.

Not on that scale, but the Boating/Camping/Fishing places have bits and bobs.

I don’t know what the Aussie equivalent to Decathlon

Err.. Decathlon! Except we don't have one in Perth. Boo!!!

Whats wrong with a jumper?

I'd probably mess my hair up taking a jumper off. Zip up fleece (or merino/wool etc) cardy would just be easier.

Oh - I do have T1 diabetes and some peripheral neuropathy, so my ikkle hands n feet do feel colder than your average fully functioning human!

Rab micro gilet with down filling. You don’t want covered arms when working in an office, just core warmth. And the down is light and warm.

Uniqlo is pretty good for that sort of thing and it looks like you have stores in Perth.

"What zip up top for keeping me a bit warmer than I am at the moment".

I hope the job you're doing whilst sitting at that desk isn't about making critical decisions...

I've never forgotten the bitter winters when I lived outback Queensland, some of them dipped into the low 20s, so you have my sympathy.

Ahh gone soft like the rest of the Crims, eh ?

I have a nice Patagonia pullover type fleece that has a bit more style to it than many (top 1/4 as some poppers rarher than a zip).

No hood though.  It's not the Antarctic after all.

But 18 degrees ? assuming that's in Centigrade and not Kelvin, that's toasty warm.

I have neither the time nor the crayons to re-explain this for you.
