Cheese and onion crisps don't taste like cheese and onion, either cooked or raw. Salt and vinegar crisps are less likely to be visited by Trading Standards, they do actually taste just about right.
I've yet to find a true to type sweet though. Closest is lemon flavored Opal Fruits but they have a soapy aftertaste.
Hedgehog crisps?
McDonald's chocolate milkshake.
Nothing chocolaty about it whatsoever.
Crab paste tastes nothing like crabs 😬
the gentleman’s relish tastes nothing like gentleman’s relish. i’ve heard.
Chicken Super Noodles
Delicious. Nothing like chicken.

Fun fact.
All bananas are derived from one species of banana.
All banana flavouring is derived from one species of banana. But it's a different species. Which is why banana flavoured things don't really taste of banana.
(you should probably fact-check this, it's 3am and I'm going to bed)

I did. From what I can tell, it's more a case that Big Mike bananas taste like banana flavouring rather than the flavouring having been developed to mimic the flavour of a Big Mike.

All bananas are derived from one species of banana.

All varieties of bananas belong to the Musa genus in the Musaceae family.
All bananas are derived from one species of banana.
Variety not species
Biology was never my strong point.
We did a blind crisp tasting in the office one Christmas using the poncy festive flavours - most of them were either "chicken or smokey bacon" or "spicy". Surprisingly nobody guessed anywhere near stuff like "maple glazed ham with dijon mustard"or" butter basted turkey with chestnut stuffing".
So the moral is that to save money at Christmas just buy regular chicken or bacon crisps then tell your guests that they are something like "Norfolk free range turkey with foraged truffle butter"
Cream Soda does not taste like cream.
The issue with things like crisp flavouring is there have been things like chicken flavour crisps for decades. The ability to mimic and replicate flavour has increased hugely over that time but people want the crisps they like to taste how the like them - actually tasting like chicken or cheese and onion isn’t the point - especially as those things also have very different textures.
Vegetables from Aldi don’t taste of anything.
Irn Bru allegedly made from girders in Scotland does not taste of metal
Cream soda is it not meant to be vanilla as in ice cream, one flavour spot on has to be chocolate Angel Delight . Pity they don't bring back the mint chocolate Angel Delight or banana or even peach, there might have been a green coloured one but can't remember what it was meant to be
I saw mint choc Angel Delight just today.
Youre wrong though, Butterscotch for the win.
