Anyone know this area?, A canal with a reasonable long run and easy access for an evening paddle would do.

Hmmmm was a nice idea, but hellish complicated rules and too many locks. Apparently you are not allowed to do anything in England without a permit.

I wouldn't worry too much about the permit. Just tell them you're a member of the BCU. Although I've never been asked in over 40 years of paddling (yes, I was a child prodigy 😉 )
