So, to save some cash a few years back I bought a factory water pump for my van online and had my local garage fit it. (The old Half price identical part dilemma)
Anywho, the pressed steel elbow at the top of the cast alloy pump started to weet slightly not long after install.. only ifentofiied as the minimal coolant leakage would cook off on the block and smell for 5 minutes. the online warranty required I return the defective part for replacement... I couldn't be down the use of the van and figured I'd put up with it.
Anyway, 5? Years later and it's getting worse.
So, I'm not touching any leak stop products but this there anything like cold 'solder' that I can persuade into any voids in the pressing to save having to do another pump replacement.
So many thread lock and other liquids out there that there must be something!?
Picture and what van.
I'd give it a go with two part epoxy metal and a fibreglass heat wrap bandage
I'd perhaps think twice about driving to the Alps.
What kind of van is it that a water pump is expensive.
I used to be a hgv mechanic and tried loads of stuff to cure porous/ leaking pipes etc, some are better than other , but all are temporary
I would bite the bullett and get a replacement pump, either original or quality replacement
Some of the parts being sold at the moment are terrible quality
Chemical metal is good. But yes really is it not just easier to replace? If you’ve had 5 years out of it I’d say it’s done pretty well!
I’ve stopped supplying parts for others to fit for this reason. If they’d supplied it originally it would have been fixed when you took it back and pointed out the leak.
