Fixing a leaking cistern flush valve

This should be easy, but…
Cistern has started leaking water into pan, it’s about 8 years old and as far as I can tell, the flush mechanism is a Siamp Optima 50, like this

Symptoms are consistent with leaking flush valve, which should be easy to replace. Just twist the assembly and lift it out, swap seal and refit. However the tank is tiny, built into a unit and the only access I have is from a little cut away port in the cistern. I can’t get enough grip to twist it, or even to be sure I’m twisting it right direction. It will rotate a few mm either way back and forth, but that’s it

Anyone got any bright ideas how to free it up or even right way to twist it?

Sounds like you need to open up the top of the unit. Is it just worktop with some silicon sealant round or more built it? BTW check there is nothing stuck on the valve gasket first if you can get a brush bit of wire in there! I bought a new mechanism as had similar symptoms and found out it was a bit of limescale.

Typical… after wrestling with this on and off over a few days, 5 minutes after posting I got the damn thing out! Just rocked it back and forth a bit while trying to twist and it came out. Anti-clockwise to unlock if anyone finds themselves in similar position!

Thanks, db. No chance of getting anything in there and the whole thing is built in. Anyway all done now
