British Gas (we get our gas and electricity from them) seem keen to sign us up to a fixed price tariff (for 2 years) advising (of course) that if their prices were to increase during the duration, ours would not.

Being naturally sceptical I'm inclined to the view that anything British Gas are keen for me to do is probably a bad idea. Of course the reverse of their argument is true and if prices drop, ours would remain fixed at a higher rate.

What to people think, any fixed price tariff is a bit of a gamble but are we expecting an imminent drop in energy prices that British Gas are trying to forestall or worth a punt?

use a comparison site to see how competitive their offer is...

Have a look at this, might work for you.

Wish I could get this tariff in Wales.

^ Well I'm paying a lot less than that for gas. The leccy looks quite good though.

Noting that comparison sites might not be showing you the whole truth. They show you comparisons between tariffs available to them, which they get commission on selling. The supplier themselves may have tariffs which are only available through themselves. Often offered to new customers, special deals, dual-fuel or with other bundles, or via retentions.

Fixed price can be okay but if others lower their prices you're stuck, plus small print may allow for increase in price according to RPI (for example).
