Printer number one is not working.

Retrieved old printer from loft after a years storage. This works perfectly apart from it doesn’t print. If I rub the ink cartridges on paper ,ink comes out. Ink levels are good. I’ve pressed the clean the heads button and still no print on paper.

I’m assuming some ink has dried somewhere and not letting the ink through.

Any ideas?

Normally a printer can’t find the laptop or has some sort of hissy fit about something trivial. According to the system check everything is perfect.

Its an hp 1050

Usually it's the print head that blocks with dried ink over time. Plenty of videos on you tube showing how to remove print heads and run them under water to un block.

That said HP cartridges always used to have the print head built in to the cartridge; in card like this you'd replace the cartridge and they'd just work again. not sure about more recent cheap ones though.

Yip. Blocked heads on the cartridges. If it's not better after 3 head cleans it never will be. Time for new cartridges (or printer) I'm afraid.

Yeah get some gloves, get some IPA (hope you've got some in your garage already) and clean what you can. Use YouTube videos for a guide. Don't be surprised if it just doesn't work and the only option is to throw the hateful thing in the bin 😐

Advice, don't do it in the house, or somewhere you can wipe down - printer ink is messy. IPA or brake cleaner (and hot water) would help with blocked print heads if not on the cartridge. Saved my HP by cleaning the print heads.

Lady on the intraweb said to soak them in hot water.

It now prints a bit. Shall purchase some new cartridges and save a bit of landfill.

Thanks all for pointing me in the right direction.

Isopropanol alcohol wipes, or just the fluid its self on a lint free cloth.

1) Remove the ink cartridges.

2) This is the technical bit so apologies in advance if this gets complicated: throw them in the bin.

3) Buy new ink cartridges.

4) Print!
